U.S. House Passes “In-Equality” Act
By David E. Smith   |   02.26.21
On Thursday afternoon, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 224 to 206 to pass the so-called "Equality Act" (H.R. 5), which would enshrine “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” as legally protected classes in a myriad of federal laws. The vote fell along party lines, with only three Republicans voting with the Democratic majority, and two Republicans not voting.
3 Reasons: Why There’s No Such Thing as a “Secular” Constitution
02.20.21
If you love to discuss (and to defend) the U.S. Constitution, it’s not uncommon to find yourself in a conversation or debate with others who claim that our nation’s founding charter of government is a “secular” document.

While it’s true that America’s government is not a theocracy, it’s historically inaccurate and inconsistent to argue that the Founders never intended government and religion to mix.
Opponents’ Blueprint for a “Secular” Constitution Would Be Unrecognizable to America’s Founders
02.13.21
Recently, an activist group known as the Secular Democrats of America (SDA) sent a document to the president and the administration with a directive “to take back the mantle of religious freedom and pluralism.”

On the surface, the title—Restoring Constitutional Secularism and Patriotic Pluralism in the White House—makes the SDA’s mission sound appealing.
Court-Packing: Why It’s So Dangerous For America
02.10.21
Eighty-four years ago, on February 5, 1937, President Franklin Roosevelt announced a bold plan. He grew tired of the United States Supreme Court striking down key pieces of the signature “New Deal” legislation because it gave too much power to the executive branch.

So, on that Friday in February, President Roosevelt announced his intent to seek legislation to expand the membership of the U.S. Supreme Court from nine to as many as fifteen justices—what came to be known as the “court-packing” plan.
Were the Capitol Rioters Christ-Followers?
By Laurie Higgins   |   01.29.21
Elana Schor wrote an unhelpful article titled “Christianity on Display at the Capitol Riot Sparks New Debate” for the Associated Press (AP) on Thursday. It’s a rambling piece of slumgullion ostensibly on “Christian Nationalism” that throws together equally unhelpful quotes from Christian leaders without once defining Christian Nationalism; or making distinctions between patriotism and “Christian Nationalism”; or between those who merely use Christian rhetoric and true Christ-followers; or between the rioters and the thousands of Americans—including many Christians—who were at the protest but had nothing to do with the riots.
The Shape of Things to Come in the Biden/Never-Trumper Dystopia
By Laurie Higgins   |   01.20.21
Good job, David French, Ed Stetzer, Christianity Today, Lincoln Project, and other assorted Never-Trumpers. The senile, morally corrupt President-Elect of the once great United States of America just nominated a delusional man with a cross-dressing fetish to be the assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services. Now decent people won’t be able to teach their young children about our president's cabinet. With Dr. Richard "Rachel" Devine's appointment will come Big Brother's prohibition of “misgendering” Devine. In other words, Big Brother and his minions will command all Americans to mis-sex the burly Dr. Devine. Not gonna do it. Wouldn’t be prudent.
ACLU: Ignore Black Voices, Defund the Police
By Alex Newman   |   01.19.21
Regardless of what black Americans think, the police departments that protect and serve their communities should be defunded immediately. At least that is the latest propaganda being peddled in a bizarre new campaign by the far-left American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a radical organization literally founded by members of the Communist Party USA.
How Religious is Your U.S. Congress?
01.16.21
The recent pandemic has proven that the Essential Fight for religious liberty in America extends beyond legal court battles. There’s an equally important fight happening outside the courtroom, such as in the halls of U.S. Congress, where First Liberty continues to keep a vigilant eye on important policies and developments that could advance, or restrict, our first and most fundamental freedom.
Nancy Pelosi and Emmanuel Cleaver Womentally Unhinged
By Laurie Higgins   |   01.05.21
Womaniacal House Speaker Nancy Pelosi—another Democrat leader with compromised cognitive abilities and no moral principles—has womanaged to womangle her first day of the new congressional session.
With Kinks Every 6 Feet: What Romans 13 Means In America
12.15.20
What many pastors and Christians are twisting Romans 13 and 1 Pet. 2 to mean is laughable, I mean, literally. That’s what God does with kings and nations that use their power to plot against God and His anointed (and that includes His people and their freedom). God laughs (Ps. 2:4). So Christians should laugh too.

Illinois, and Chicago specifically, is known for its election corruption. Carol Davis, with the Illinois Conservative Union, has spoken on election integrity issues for years. She weighs in on the most recent presidential election and how we can secure future...
Radical ’Heroes Act’ Is a Leftist Wish-List
11.23.20
Though formally titled the "Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act," the $2-$3 trillion Heroes Act is much more than a relief package. It bails out mismanaged Democrat-led cities and states on the taxpayer's dime, making Americans pay for the incompetence and overreach of Democratic leadership.
Government Must Support and Encourage Free Exercise of Religion, or Fail
11.11.20
Illinois Family Institute has joined a friend of the court ("amicus") brief supporting Catholic Social Services in Fulton v. City of Philadelphia, which was just argued before the U.S. Supreme Court.

At the federal level, the courts generally enforce this amendment by requiring 1) a compelling government interest, and 2) the least restrictive means narrowly tailored to actually achieve that interest (called the strict scrutiny test), before allowing a government to infringe Constitutional rights.
Court Packing—Destabilizing and Unnecessary
11.06.20
The idea of expanding the size of the U.S. Supreme Court, also known as “court packing,” has surfaced once again, as it did after the Brett Kavanaugh appointment. Often mentioned is a proposal by Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of University of California Berkeley’s Law School. He favors increasing the size of the court to 13 instead of its current nine. There are other calls for a larger court, such as those produced by organizations like “Take Back the Court” and “Demand Justice.”
