Mary Miller: Advocate for the Unborn

Children don’t exist in the mind of the radical Left.

Sound strange? Think about it: for the most liberal in our nation, it’s normal—even laudable—to:

1.) Subject kids as young as kindergarten to graphic and deviant sex education.

2.) Sell Pride onesies and other Pride apparel geared toward kids in stores such as Target.

3.) Label parents who don’t affirm their child’s gender dysphoria as bigots at best and as unfit at worst, even going so far in Washington state and now California as to legalize state kidnapping of these children to provide “gender-affirming” care.

4.) Abort defenseless babies in the womb for any reason, at any point in pregnancy.

5.) Groom kids who can’t legally drink, enlist in the military, or get a tattoo into a radicalized medical system seeking to amputate functioning body parts rather than give them the psychiatric care and time they need to reconcile their minds and bodies.

Every one of these is an example of forcing concepts, causes, and irreversible, life-altering decisions upon minds and bodies that are too young to correctly handle, process, or act on them. But since most of the Left believes children are simply miniature adults, this isn’t a problem for them.

As a result of this tragic lie, in our nation, childhood gets shorter and shorter with every passing year, with innocence no longer considered a gift to be protected or a value worth upholding.

Of course, if there’s anything consistent about progressives, it’s the cognitive dissonance. Take liberals in the psychiatric fields, who have over the years extended the definition of “adolescence” further and further into adulthood.

Consider too the Left’s obsession with gun control, usually at full crescendo following a school shooting, decrying the loss of innocent life and rightly lamenting that anyone so young should be subjected to such violence.

So, let’s see if we’ve got this straight: on the one hand, kids are kids and should be treated as such (sometimes far beyond what history and experience tell us is prudent or right), but on the other hand, we must ensure minors’ access to ideological “loaded guns” like unfettered abortion access, radical sexualization, and LGBTQ ideology.

Both of these things cannot be true.

Of course, if we’re talking about kids, we need to also talk about parents. The radical forces on the Left can’t succeed if parents are engaged and act on a proper understanding of what is appropriate for their minor children. So, these radical forces typically a) guilt and brainwash parents into going along with or even championing their causes or b) simply go behind their backs.

But there is a third option; one we’re seeing being taken more and more, especially in deep blue states: c) usurp parental authority, giving the government more power than the parent has.

Study any leftist political movement, past or present, and you will see that one key to success was to drive a wedge between parents and their children, replacing God’s design with a twisted facsimile: the state—not parents—as provider and nurturer.

As part of this evil use of government power and in addition to the list at the beginning of this article, another way the Left is seeking to erase childhood altogether is by legally barring parents from the knowledge of life-altering (and often life-ending) decisions their minor children make about their health, not only in the area of gender and sexuality but also where abortion is concerned.

In 2021, Illinois added a dubious distinctive to an already appalling list with its repeal of parental notification for minors seeking an abortion. Unsurprisingly, New York, California, Vermont, Oregon, Washington, and others have done the same, with more blue states seeking to pass similar legislation in the coming months.

What is confusing about this move is the fact that a majority of Illinoisans—and Americans— regardless of political affiliation, oppose the repeal of parental notification. A recent article in the Chicago Sun-Times pointed out the lack of support these bills enjoy.

“Polling shows repealing these laws is very unpopular — a Pew Research poll from 2022 found there was 70% support for requiring parental notification, 57% among Democrats. In Illinois, a whopping 78% of voters favor parental notification, begging the question, Who was this for?”

In post-Roe America, this is how Leftist politicians are responding to an increasing number of laws that protect the unborn: ignoring their constituency and ensuring the lifelong pain of minor girls by removing any so-called barriers to abortion—short-circuiting the crucial role of loving parents to counsel their daughters or, in many cases, to even know they are pregnant before it’s too late to save their grandchild from a gruesome death.

We know that abortion always has two victims and in these liberal states, now it’s possible for both of them to be children.

The repeal of Roe v. Wade sent abortion legislation back to the states, but some legislators are still seeking to impact the way those laws are implemented on a federal level. Pro-abortion Democrats still hope to find a way to enshrine abortion rights in law for the entire nation, but they are not the only ones working to impact abortion law in the states.

U.S. Representative Mary Miller (R-Taylorville) is a conservative who has consistently stood for the unborn and vulnerable women and girls being victimized by the abortion machine. That’s why last week she introduced in Congress H.R 4123, the Parental Notification and Intervention Act.

This commonsense legislation ensures parents retain the right to guard their children against predators—even state-sanctioned and funded ones like Planned Parenthood.

“All children are created by God with a purpose, and that purpose begins at conception,” Miller said. “The Left wants to strip the rights of parents in every way possible and put unrestricted ‘abortion-on-demand’ at the top of their priority list – even if it puts minors at risk. That is why I am proud to be joined by my colleagues in the House in introducing the Parental Notification and Intervention Act.”

Concerning the particulars of how these protections will be enforced, Miller continued,

This legislation would prevent abortion providers from performing abortions on minors until the minor’s parents have received written notification that their child has requested an abortion and until they have had a 96-hour window within which they can intervene.

Failure to comply would result in heavy fines.

On the U.S. Senate side, pro-life U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) plans to take up the bill. Truthfully, this bill faces long odds, but if members of Congress (particularly Democrats) would do the will of their constituency, they could easily send it to President Biden’s desk with a veto-proof majority.

If they do not, they will go on record as even more radically pro-abortion than we feared.

Make no mistake, parents in the United States are waking up. We’re seeing it in communities all over the country, at libraries, school board meetings, and beyond. What makes liberals believe this will be any different?

The vast majority of voters (and likely an even larger majority of moms and dads) agree that parents have a right and a duty to be involved in the lives of their children until they are adults. Contrary to the shrieks of the pro-abortion lobby, parental notification for minors seeking an abortion does not represent a curtailment of “abortion access.”

It is simply sanity in the face of the Left’s culture of death.

TAKE ACTION: Click HERE to email your federal officials. Let’s all help Mary Miller move this extremely important bill by making our U.S Representatives and U.S. Senators aware of H.R. 4123 and insisting they become a co-sponsor. Tell them that voters overwhelmingly support parental notification before a minor girl gets an abortion regardless of party affiliation. Tell them that in today’s difficult culture for teens, parental involvement is more crucial than ever.

You can also call your U.S. Representative directly or call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

Please pray that God would open the eyes of those who may have voted against the right to life in the past. The Lord is able to change the hearts of those in authority. We must pray to that end.

The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord;
H
e turns it wherever he will.
