Last June, U.S. Representative Mary Miller (IL-R) introduced Resolution 475 to designate the month of June as “Family Month” as opposed to “Pride Month.”
The Resolution states:
Supporting the designation of June as Family Month.
Whereas the traditional nuclear family is the foundation of a healthy society;
Whereas mothers and fathers play a crucial and irreplaceable role in the upbringing of their children;
Whereas the best environment for children to thrive is a home with a married mother and father;
…
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives—
(1) recognizes the benefit of marriage and family to men, women, children, and society;(2) no longer recognizes Pride Month; and
(3) supports the designation of Family Month for the purpose of rededicating our Nation to the importance of this essential unit. (To read the entire Resolution, click here.)
Not only is this Resolution something that should be supported, it is necessary for the flourishment, development, stability, safety and protection of children.
Recently, the Illinois Family Institute partnered with the “Greater Than” Campaign, a campaign that is working towards the goal of overturning the devastating Obergefell decision.
What was originally peddled as “equal rights for adults” had the devastating consequence of stripping children of their right to a mom and a dad.
When Obergefell was passed in 2015, it not only perverted and redefined marriage, it also turned parenthood law upside down. No longer do parents need to consist of a mom and a dad. They can be two “moms” and two “dads.”
Fast forward to today, we have over ten years of receipts on this decision’s impact on the family and the research is abundantly clear: children need a mom and a dad.
A man cannot mother. A woman cannot father. Children are biologically designed to need and thrive under the loving, nurturing, and protective care that a mom and a dad uniquely give.
The rights and safety of children matter more than the desires of adults.
Every piece of psychological and social research proves that children thrive under the loving protection of a married mother and father. Not only do children thrive – society thrives.
When children receive the love and protection they need, rates of teen pregnancy, school dropouts, promiscuity, STDs, academic challenges, drug use, gang activity, and more plummet.
Back in 2014, sociologist Brad Wilcox co-authored a report showing that children need both a mom and a dad to raise them. And the research hasn’t changed.
“the literature on fathers and mothers indicates that there are important gender differences between the sexes when it comes to parental investments of time, levels of responsibility, styles of engagement, and discipline. Taken together, the different styles typically offered by mothers and fathers can provide a positive mix of involvement, affection, discipline, comfort, and challenge…
This environment seems to allow children to develop strong attachments to their parents and to acquire the social, emotional, economic, and educational resources they need to launch into the outside world with success.”
A truly healthy society is one that not only recognizes the nuclear family as best, but refuses to give a platform to any other “family model.”
