Chaplain Steven Lee has faithfully served as both a local and federal law enforcement officer.

He has had many years of experience in law enforcement through working as a patrol officer, corrections officer, sheriff’s sergeant, SWAT team leader, major crimes investigator, and for the NCIS as a counterintelligence and counterterrorism special agent.

To say the least, Chaplain Lee sports many career successes.

However, in 1988, Chaplain Lee decided to step away from law enforcement so that he could enter Christian ministry full-time. Since entering the ministry, Chaplain Lee has served as a church planter, pastor, missionary, and law enforcement chaplain.

In his ministry work, Pastor Lee has responded to major national tragedies including Columbine, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and the Mandalay Bay Hotel shooting.

In the after-effects of the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Pastor Lee served as chaplain to the crew that recovered the Ground Zero Cross which is now on display at the 9/11 museum in New York.

“God’s Word for Peace Officers Law Enforcement Bible Project” highlights Chaplain Lee’s ministry to reach the lives of those in law enforcement with the truths of God’s Word.

The mission of God’s Word for Peace Officers is simple:

“to place into officers’ hands nationwide our special edition Bibles with a 97-page Bible introduction… explaining how God’s Word provides them spiritual backup.”

He has delivered thousands into the hands of first responders.

One grateful recipient, NYPD Chief Joseph Esposito, wrote to personally thank Chaplain Lee for his dedicated service to New York City in the aftermath of 9/11.

Dear Chaplain Lee,

First, let me thank you very much for the time you have spent here in New York City with us. Your presence has been a pleasure and a comfort in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. We look forward to seeing you again as soon as your schedule permits.

I must thank you for the very generous donation of copies of “God’s Word for Peace Officers” which were distributed to Officers at Ground Zero and also to the family members of Officers who died in the line of duty at the World Trade Center. I understand that in doing so, you have exhausted your supplies. How unfortunate for those members who did not receive one – I know that I keep my own copy within reach in my office.

Thank you once again for the Bibles and for your comfort and support. Please convey my gratitude, on behalf of the New York City Police Department, to your colleagues at the Peace Officer Ministries.

Sincerely, Joseph J. Esposito

Chaplain Lee’s Bible Project was also recognized by President George Bush in 2002.

Chaplain Lee’s ministry is well-loved by many in local and federal law enforcement.
