The failure of the public school system is no secret, which causes many Christian families to wisely opt out of public school.
Still, all parents desire their children to receive quality education, with high academic excellence being one of the goals and main tenets, along with biblical teaching.
Because of these goals, many Christian families decide to homeschool or participate in a co-op to meet their children’s educational needs.
The National Home Education Research Institute noted the following:
- A 2015 study found Black homeschooled students to be scoring 23 to 42 percentile points above Black public school students (Ray, 2015).
- 78% of peer-reviewed studies on academic achievement show homeschooled students perform statistically significantly better than those in institutional schools (Ray, 2017)
- Homeschooled students score above average on achievement tests regardless of their parents’ level of formal education or their family’s household income. (Ray, 2013, 2010)
- Whether homeschooled parents were ever certified teachers is not notably related to their children’s academic achievement.
- The degree of state control and regulation of homeschooling is not related to academic achievement. (Ray, 2013, 2010)
- Home-educated students typically score above average on the SATs and ACTs that colleges consider for admissions. (Read more here.)
- Homeschool students are increasingly being actively recruited by colleges.
The proposed narrative that homeschoolers are less intelligent and have fewer opportunities than public school students is completely false. Nevertheless, beginning to homeschool, starting a micro-school, or heading a co-op can be an overwhelming venture.
This is why the Herzog Foundation exists.
The Herzog Foundation was founded to “catalyze and accelerate the development of quality Christ-centered K-12 education so that families and culture flourish.”
They do this through multiple programs that they advance each year nationwide.
One of these programs is SchoolBox, a learning program designed for entrepreneurship in Christian education:
“New Christian schools, micro schools, and cooperatives are popping up all over the country. To assist these Christian education entrepreneurs, we created an online resource called SchoolBox. The lessons, resources, and mentorship offered in SchoolBox not only catalyze the creation of new schools, but also help parents and administrators navigate the start-up process every step of the way…”
In addition to this, the Herzog Foundation provides a training program for homeschooling families called HF Homeschool:
“HF Homeschool is a free, online resource designed to equip new or seasoned homeschooling parents seeking to start a co-op or similar group in their community. The program provides training, mentorship and intentional connection with state homeschooling organizations. The HF Homeschool platform offers an 8-step guide to starting a homeschool or co-op; one-to-one mentorship opportunities; and access to best practices, policies and resources to ensure a quality education.”
Whether you are new to homeschooling, starting a co-op, or beginning a micro-school, the Herzog Foundation provides you with all the training, knowledge, and resources you will need to provide your children with high-quality biblical education.
