When Ideology Replaces Biology in Medicine
One of the most disturbing moments during a recent Congressional hearing had nothing to do with complicated medical procedures or cutting-edge scientific research. It centered on one of the most basic biological realities known to mankind. Can men have babies?
On July 14, the U.S. House Committee on Education and Workforce held a hearing titled, “Training Activists, Not Physicians: The Impact of DEI on Medical Schools.” Lawmakers examined how diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are reshaping medical education, often replacing objective science with political ideology.
Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) opened the hearing by expressing concern that some of America’s most prestigious medical schools are placing ideological conformity ahead of medical competence. He referenced investigations into UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), alleging race-based admissions practices and curricula focused more on activism than sound medical science.
The hearing took a remarkable turn when U.S. Representative Mary Miller (R-IL) questioned Dr. Sam Hawgood, Chancellor of UCSF, and Dr. Steven Dubinett, Dean of UCLA’s medical school, about biological reality.
Miller asked a straightforward question: Has a “non-biological woman” ever had a baby?
Rather than answer directly, Dr. Hawgood replied that a “transgender person can,” explaining that such terminology is taught to help future physicians care for a diverse patient population.
Unsatisfied, Miller pressed the issue again, asking whether a non-biological woman has ever given birth.
Instead of acknowledging the obvious biological reality, Dr. Hawgood attempted to qualify his answer by stating, “Of course, the vast majority of pregnancies are in women…”
The implication was astonishing. If the “vast majority” of pregnancies occur in women, is he honestly claiming that some pregnancies occur in biological men?
“It’s ridiculous,” Congresswoman Miller replied. She is right. Watch the five minute clip for yourself:

Following up on Congresswoman Mary Miller’s questioning, U.S. Representative Randy Fine (R-FL) sarcastically challenged Dr. Sam Hawgood to “use your made-up language,” asking, “Who are the other people who are pregnant in your kooky worldview?” after Hawgood testified that the “vast majority” of pregnancies occur in women while implying there are exceptions. Watch this revealing five-minute exchange:

Fine also posted on his X account that “Men CANNOT and will NEVER be able to get pregnant,” labeling the testimony as insane.
U.S. Representitive Burgess Owens (R-UT) argued that future physicians should spend their limited classroom time mastering the scientific knowledge needed to diagnose and treat patients—not studying political activism or social theories that do not improve patient outcomes. He questioned officials from UCLA and UCSF about controversial courses that included topics such as settler colonialism, white fertility, prison abolition, border abolition, and queer liberation, asking whether those subjects are still being taught today. Watch this five minute segment of the hearing:

Truth vs. Wokeism
The practice of medicine is grounded in objective truth. Physicians cannot accurately diagnose illness, prescribe treatment, or conduct research if they are unwilling to acknowledge basic biological reality. Can a doctor who cannot clearly distinguish between male and female consistently practice sound medicine? Surrendering science to ideology is not just bad practice—it can be dangerous.
Compassion for every patient is essential. Every person is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with absolute dignity and respect. Christians should be the very first to demonstrate genuine love and kindness toward those experiencing confusion or emotional distress.
But true compassion never demands the abandonment of truth.
Medical schools have a solemn obligation to prepare physicians to understand the human body as it actually exists—not as political activists wish it to be. Whenever ideology is elevated above biological reality, medicine suffers, public trust erodes, and patients ultimately bear the consequences.
Calling Evil Good
This hearing illustrates something far larger than a disagreement over terminology. It reveals how deeply gender ideology has penetrated some of America’s most influential institutions.
The prophet Isaiah warned of a day when people would “call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness…“ (Isaiah 5:20). Likewise, the Apostle Paul described those who, “professing to be wise, they became fools“ (Romans 1:22).
Those verses come to mind when highly educated deans at our nation’s top medical schools refuse to acknowledge the most basic biological reality: only biological women can get pregnant and give birth.
The issue here is not intelligence. It is the wanton destruction of truth.
Do we really believe that teaching future physicians that the fundamental distinctions between male and female are fluid will improve medicine? If basic biological reality can be redefined to satisfy ever changing woke ideology, what other scientific truths will eventually be sacrificed to political pressure?
Parents, taxpayers, medical professionals, and elected officials must start asking these questions. The integrity of medical education—and ultimately, the safety of patient care—depends on the answers.
