Earlier this week, while reading from teleprompters, President Joe Biden delivered a short speech about so-called “extreme weather.”
Left-wing activists want us to believe that turbulent weather is something new or more severe than it has been in the past. They want us to believe it is a direct result of human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide emissions are specially a major point of contention, as many knowledgeable voices on the subject claim it is, in fact, good and beneficial for the greening of the earth.
In a juvenile and unpresidential swipe, Biden called anyone who disagrees with him “really, really dumb…” during his speech. What is perhaps even more irritating than Biden’s partisan insults about those of us he labels “climate deniers” is the condescending way he talks to all citizens – like we are all clueless children. For example, Biden’s prepared remarks included the following:
We wanted American people to know help is here… Follow the guidance from local leaders and public safety officials. Stay indoors somewhere cool if you’re vulnerable. Be careful on hot pavement.
Know the signs of heatstroke like headache, nausea, and dizziness, and always have water with you whenever you’re outside this summer.
Honestly, the belief that government bureaucrats must act to protect us from summer heat is offensive. Yet that doesn’t stop Nanny State politicians from spending taxpayer money to “take care of us.”
Evidently, that’s why Biden announced initiatives to “establish the nation’s first-ever federal safety standard for excessive heat in the workplace” and $1 billion in FEMA grants to “help communities protect against natural disasters, including extreme heat, storms, and flooding.”
Do we want our bureaucrats babysitting us? In the wake of the COVID lockdowns, do we really believe they are the experts? Just look at so many European nations where liberties have been sacrificed for ever-increasing government power amid promises to “take care” of their citizens.
John Stossel emphasized similar concerns in a recent article, saying:
The founders made it clear that governments should be limited. They didn’t think we had a claim on our neighbor’s money. We shouldn’t try to force them to pay for our food, clothing, housing, prescription drugs, college tuition …
And let me add that our neighbors shouldn’t have to pay to protect us from weather – or – a lack of common sense on how to deal with normal weather cycles.
