Many Americans are supportive of socialism, however it is defined. But because they see the Constitution as thwarting their political goals, they convince themselves that the Constitution is obsolete, not suited to “today’s realities.”

What can be done? Thomas Jefferson suggested that each generation should revise the Constitution to fit current circumstances.
The demand is there for a “living Constitution,” one that doesn’t hinder the politics of the majority, one that is easily molded to suit current political realities. With hopes of evading constitutional difficulties, the Democratic Socialists of America are advertising a grand plan for America.
Claim: Vote for me and I’ll set you free
From the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), this is their best argument for letting them change America:
These are all familiar, everyday activities. A socialist day off could be like any good day now. But what if you were free to spend your time how you like without worrying about cost or dreading going back to work? What if you didn’t have to think about paying rent or loans at the end of the month, or saving for college, or affording groceries?
It’s been said that it’s easier to imagine the end of the world than it is to imagine the end of capitalism. But just because it isn’t easy to imagine now doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to make it happen.
Workers deserve more.
However, what do you have to do to get to this blissful condition?
Reality: This is a stick-em-up
The DSA lists a lot of things they’d accomplish, but their first requirement is that we abandon the Constitution and all of the culture and society that make America what it is. For a thorough debunking of the DSA plans see this Hot Air article.
But socialism is worse than all of that. It’s the ultimate bait and switch scam.
So it goes: Socialism, when left to its own devices, irresistibly moves towards authoritarianism and totalitarianism.
As with all bait-and-switch scams, socialism promises you the world. That’s the only way it can get any traction before it delivers you to a virtual prison. It forces compliance and dependency in every aspect of life—housing, employment, medicine, mobility, education, even your creativity.
Oh, sure lots of clueless Che T-shirt-wearing kids will talk real savvy about it while they’re free. But once it’s got them for real, it will permeate their daily life both in body and mind. In this very respect, slavery is a very fitting description of socialism. All of socialism’s promises— equality, social justice, blah, blah, blah—amount to nothing but bait.
If you don’t believe me, ask yourself this: What could be more oppressive than living under a system run by a tiny clique of power-mongers who exert control over you through a morbidly obese machinery of bureaucrats?
Understand this: the Soviet society was run by professional socialists. Yet they couldn’t make socialism and prosperity work there. Boris Yeltsin, leader of the Soviet Union, visited America and saw for himself the failure of his nation’s socialism. But we’re supposed to trust rank amateur American socialists with our lives, our children’s lives, and our futures? I think not.
Conclusion
Socialists promise comfort and an easy life. They promise time and again but never deliver. And they can’t deliver, because their plans are designed to only deliver slavery.
When advertising “sizzle” gets you to buy a product that doesn’t live up to its billing, you can always do better with your next purchase. But if you believe the socialist “sizzle,” and give them a chance to change things, you won’t get to repent and change your mind. Remember: our Christian culture is the only game in town.
What’s best is to honor God’s ways, to reinforce and rebuild our Christian society. We must keep believing in God our deliverer, and act as light for society, just as Jesus said we would be (Matthew 5:14-16).
