It seems that even witchcraft is not exempt from woke ideology. But why should it be? The Bible calls Satan “…the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience” (Eph 2:2). That evil spirit was at work during Paul’s day, and he is at work today in everyone who is a slave to sin.

A recent article published by religionnews.com discusses how modern Wiccans have a problem on their hands with so-called “LGBTQ+” members, because the two traditional Wiccan deities are male and female. This poses a dilemma for Wiccans who do not want to lose numbers within their ranks that “identify” as a gender other than male or female.

When Wicca, the best-known modern pagan religion and one that informs many others, was first established amid a revival of interest in the occult in England and the U.S. in the mid-20th century, it found a comfortable place among feminists for its equal celebration of a female deity alongside a male one…But the attention to the two sexes has presented problems for Wiccans proud of the religion’s progressive framework, as its reliance on gender binaries in both practice and belief has seemed to exclude LGBTQ+ individuals. Since the birth of modern paganism, queer men otherwise attracted to the path for its alternative to traditional religion and acceptance among Wicca’s practitioners have had to overcome a certain amount of “erasure” inherent in its gendered assumptions.

Before I address the content of the article, I was reminded when reading it of the meme where a woman asks a man, “So, what’s your zodiac sign?” And the man replies “Dinosaur.” The woman is shocked and says, “But that one doesn’t even exist!” And the man says, “None of them exist.” That applies here. Transexual Wiccans are now upset that their imaginary gods are gender binary. So, what is their solution? To add a third “god” into the mix.

At the Temple of Witchcraft…[in] the Queer Spirit Ministry, nongendered terminology such as “siblings” has replaced “brothers and sisters,” and in rituals three divine aspects are called upon: divine masculine, divine feminine, queer spirit. In performing the Great Rite, there is a new focus on union, such as “our union with the divine,” or “the union of our three souls…”

…But some pagans are resisting the changes. Covens that choose not to adapt may see initiates “hive off” or branch off to establish more inclusive group practices, said Janine Nelson Hoffman, a Wiccan elder high priestess who serves on the board of the Covenant of the Goddess, a national organization of Wiccans and witches. Hoffman’s own coven is already making changes, she added, and she has served in the roles of both priest and priestess. In a decentralized religion, this is how change happens, Hoffman explained. The process is slow, dynamic and highly organic.

Leaving aside for a moment the fact that arbitrarily “adding spirits” to worship and pray to is both evil and bizarre by itself, to do that for the sake of catering to the modern transexual movement is manifestly absurd. Wicca has no root in reality, it is simply a way for people to express their inward idolatry by inventing objects of worship. And in this case, they are inventing an object of worship for the sake of finding approval for their sexual immorality. But isn’t that exactly what the Apostle Paul says the unbeliever naturally does? Romans 1:21-27 states:

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

Therefore, God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason, God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

Wiccans inventing “new gods” is not surprising, but it is dangerous. I said before that the gods which the wiccans worship are imaginary – that is, that they imagine the deities are legitimate deities, but that is not what they are. The Bible tells us that the idols of Wiccan worship are actually demonic entities,

“What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons.” (1 Cor 10:19-20).

Instead, to those who are practicing Wiccanism and/or sexual immorality, the scripture exhorts you who are bound up in such wicked practice to

“…Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” (2 Cor 6:17).

God is willing and able to receive you, when you turn from your idols and believe in Christ.
