Amid a major push to “protect” children from parents who refuse to “affirm” gender confusion in children, yet another government school in Colorado is in the spotlight for “transitioning” and “grooming” yet another innocent child.
The grooming and transitioning took place behind the father’s back, sparking nationwide outrage and even calls for federal intervention. But the scandal is just the tip of the iceberg in Colorado and across America.
The new scandal comes as lawmakers in Colorado and other states are working to have government remove children from parents who will not “affirm” their gender delusions and fake pronouns.
Known as the “Kelly Loving Act,” HB 1312 would have courts “protect” gender-confused children from parents who “misgender” them. It is awaiting the governor’s signature. Its success is expected to inspire other Democrat-controlled states.
But critics of the effort are seizing on the heart-breaking story of a young dad whose daughter was secretly transitioned at school — and other stories like it — to push back on gender ideology and government overreach like never before.
The latest horror story gained national prominence last month when a video of father Dustin Gonzalez went mega-viral online.
Speaking to the Jefferson County, Colorado, school board, Gonzalez lambasted policymakers and the school for encouraging his daughter’s gender confusion — all while hiding it from him.
“My daughter changed her identity, not after years of discussion or family dialogue, not from joint input from both of her parents,” Gonzalez explained. “No, this happened quickly, secretly, encouraged by a school-appointed therapist in a system that never thought to include me. And the school didn’t inform me…. They replaced me!”
“By the time I found out, I was already labeled ‘the problem,’” continued the distraught father, adding that his objections were dismissed as “hateful” while he was further sidelined. “The therapist, the school, and eventually the court-appointed investigator all decided that because I wouldn’t affirm something, I didn’t deserve to parent my daughter equally anymore.”
As Gonzalez pointed out, he was never accused of causing harm to his daughter. The only allegation against him was that he declared he was “not ready to affirm this yet.” But as a result of his questions and the school’s actions, he is now at risk of being “erased” from his daughter’s life, he said. “It started in your schools,” Gonzalez continued, promising electoral consequences.
“Your systems made it possible, and your silence made it permanent! … You replaced my voice. You stole my seat at the table. And you made decisions about my daughter without me! … Don’t think you can take a man’s child from him and not reap a whirlwind!”

That video was shared all over the Internet, garnering millions of views and even the attention of people like billionaire Trump confidant Elon Musk. The viral video then led to numerous news reports, ranging from local stories to major outlets such as the Christian Broadcasting Network and others.
In an interview with the Illinois Family Institute this week, Gonzalez said the situation has deteriorated further.
Indeed, his daughter is now being exploited by policymakers to undermine parental rights with HB 1312. She has become so confused that she was brought before state lawmakers to denounce her own father for using her real name and “she/her pronouns.”
Speaking at a committee hearing to consider the highly controversial legislation, the daughter said she loved her father.
Yet, she still asked lawmakers to pass the law potentially removing children from the homes of parents who do not “affirm” gender confusion — confusion being deliberately instilled in children’s minds by the media, Big Pharma, and government schools.
Gonzalez was clearly heartbroken, saying the school counselor had been “grooming” his daughter and other children for years. “This counselor has 10 other kids identifying as ‘gender queer’ just in my daughter’s class,” he told IFI.
“All of them happen to be in counseling sessions with this counselor.”
Gonzalez thinks this is all deliberate. “I think the end goal of this counselor is to get my daughter and other children on this road to [medical] transitioning, and then to be the person that saves her from her dad who tells her no,” he explained.
“I would like to just go back to being a quiet dad, but I can’t. I have to fight for my daughter and other children.”
Unfortunately for Gonzalez, the very public battle is taking its toll in court. The judge in his family law case acknowledged that there is no evidence of him harming his daughter. However, the judge still drastically reduced the time Gonzalez gets to spend with his daughter from 50 percent of the time to every other weekend, or just four days per month.
“It is all because I refuse to accept her ‘non-binary’ gender identity,” Gonzalez said in a phone interview, saying he thought the judge was a “coward” scared to do the right thing rather than an ideologue.
“The courts seem to buy the lie that non-affirming increasing risks of suicide. It’s ridiculous. It’s a lie.”
And indeed, that is what the evidence shows.
Noting that the school counselor concealed the information about his daughter for two years, Gonzalez says the education system is a big part of the problem.
“We need them to get out of the business of trampling on parents’ rights,” he said, adding that the school tried and failed to secure a restraining order against him.
“These board members are a danger to our schools and our children right now,” he said. “We need to replace the entire school board here in Jefferson County, and in a lot of other places too. And there needs to be truth brought back into the system, the truth about what this gender ideology is.”
All of it is harming children and families, Gonzalez said, calling on parents to get in the fray. “We need a more offensive posture toward this ideology,” he told IFI.
“It’s incredibly harmful. Telling children they were born in the wrong body is a lie. And it’s hurting them. It creates a person dependent on what society thinks of them to define who they are.”
“The idea that not affirming these gender ideas is hateful is a lie, too,” he said, adding that parents love their children and are trying to help them and protect them.
Parents have become too complacent, he said. But that is changing. In fact, Gonzalez and others believe that these abuses and the ongoing discussions by Colorado lawmakers are rousing a sleeping giant. “The state of Colorado has really overreached here,” he said.
“This legislative session woke people up more than they realized. From what I’m seeing, people are coming up to me all the time — people are really waking up and it is encouraging.”
Another child in Colorado, a then-12-year-old girl, endured a similar experience in recent years outside Fort Collins. The girl stayed after school for an “Art Club,” only to be taught she was likely transgender and that she must conceal this from her parents.
Thankfully, her parents found out about it and went to war, likely saving their daughter from a lifetime of pain and regret. The district even got Child “Protective” Services involved when the parents balked. The whole saga is outlined in the movie Art Club.
When reached by the Illinois Family Institute, Erin Lee, the mother, told IFI she was very familiar with the Gonzalez case. Unfortunately, it is hardly an isolated occurrence, she said. “Children being secretly transitioned at school is such common practice across the country, but especially here in Colorado,” said Lee, who now serves as executive director of Protect Kids Colorado.
“I hear from multiple parents every week whose kids have been influenced by gender ideology in the classroom or secretly transitioned at school. I’ve met a dozen dads who’ve watched their kids be medically transitioned against their will in Colorado.”
Blasting HB 1312, she warned that the bill and others like it were paving the way to disaster. for the state to take children away from loving parents.
“This opens the door for the state to take children away from loving parents who won’t affirm the lie that their child was born in the wrong body.”
Unfortunately, even without the bill, these horrors are already happening in Colorado and beyond.
“As a parent whose school district involved CPS after secretly transitioning my 12-year-old, I am heartbroken for all the parents already losing custody and terrified for the families and children who will be destroyed.”
Lee, who has known Gonzalez for some time, said he is a “good father” whose daughter is being “used as a weapon against him in family court and at the legislature”
“Unfortunately, we live in a state that glorifies transgenderism and always gives preference to the parent who is willing to affirm their child’s gender confusion. I’m grateful to Dustin for telling his story out loud. Courage is contagious, and his honesty will help so many others!”
Lawmakers are speaking out, too. Republican State Rep. Jarvis Caldwell slammed Democrats for bypassing debate to get the bill through.
“I believe they did this to silence us because they know how much negative attention this has been getting nationwide,” he said on social media.
“After preventing us from the ability to debate, Colorado House Democrats rammed through HB 1312,” he was quoted as saying in media reports.
“It’s codifying into law that if their ideology confuses your child, and you don’t affirm that delusion, you’re committing child abuse and can lose custody of your child.”
“We have now crossed the Rubicon of parental rights with this bill,” Rep. Caldwell added, echoing the sentiments of countless parents and taxpayers.
Ironically, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services just announced a major report finding there is no good evidence supporting medical interventions to “affirm” a child’s gender confusion.
“Our duty is to protect our nation’s children — not expose them to unproven and irreversible medical interventions,” said NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya. “We must follow the gold standard of science, not activist agendas.”
Across Europe, even ultra-“progressive” governments in countries like Sweden and the United Kingdom are reining in the abusive “gender” practices.
But in Colorado, California, Minnesota, Illinois, and other states, it seems ideology trumps science and children’s wellbeing.
