A Hopeful Resolution for Life In Congress

In the midst of so much bad news about our disintegrating culture nowadays, sometimes there is a bright light that appears to cheer us up. This is potentially one of those moments. U.S. Representative Doug Lamborn (R-CO) has introduced a “Life Resolution” declaring that children in the womb are living people who are protected by the 14th Amendment.

The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution reads:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. [Emphasis added.]

The proposed resolution includes unborn children under those protections. This resolution is actually so good that it is quite doubtful in the corrupt time in which we find ourselves that it will be adopted. It refers to the science behind the beginning of human life (at conception), and it states that “human persons at every stage of development before birth have moral and legally protectable interests in life, health, and well-being;”

The Bible says that God is the Author of Life. He is the one who gives us life and sustains our lives, and we are made in His image. Therefore, a baby’s life is precious and has value from the very moment God initiates it. Psalm 139:13-16 describes God’s hand in creating every single fetus that has ever existed,

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

Oh, since these things are true, how wicked must any society be that allows for the slaughter of precious babies in the womb! Each one is hand-made by Jesus, and each one must be protected.

U.S. Rep. Lamborn and the twenty-one other federal lawmakers who co-sponsored this resolution should be commended for fighting the good fight for the sake of the unborn. Let us pray that God will intervene and quickly end the tragedy of 60,000,000+ babies murdered since the now overturned 1973 Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Let us pray that so-called “sanctuary states” for abortion will be outlawed by the Federal Government. And let us hope that someday God will open the eyes of those who promote the murder of the unborn to see their gross folly and turn to Christ in repentance and faith. Jesus is coming. And His recompense is coming as well.

“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Revelation 22:12-13).

Take ACTION: Click HERE to send a message to your U.S. Representative to ask him/her to co-sponsor H.Res. 464, the Recognizing Life Resolution, which acknowledges that unborn children are entitled to the protection of life and liberty as established in Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.

You may want to point out that our U.S. Constitution prohibits states from denying “the equal protection of the laws” to “any person.” When the Amendment was adopted in 1868, the word “person” had a settled public meaning that included all human beings, including unborn children.
