The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a left-wing group intent on causing racial animosity and divisions in our nation. No responsible media group would use or trust their “hate” designations for the same reasons that no one should trust the war and casualty reports coming from Hamas Jihadists in Gaza.

The SPLC’s attacks on Christian orthodoxy are especially egregious. Their godless, woke agenda is set on tearing down biblical love and truths which, when heeded, heal and bring sweet unity. The Apostle Paul makes this point clearly for us: we are all one in Christ Jesus. Every human being is made in the image of Almighty God and is of infinite value and worth.

In 2009, Illinois Family Institute (IFI) was added to their dubious “Hate Groups” list. This has become a badge of honor for us. Like so many other woke organizations, the SPLC has redefined the very meaning of “hate” to slander and defame Christian conservatives.

IFI is on the list because we are committed to exposing and opposing the use of public money to affirm and advance a particular understanding of sexual immorality that runs contrary to what God has commanded in His Word.

Journalists and news outlets would do well to avoid repeating SPLC’s harmful defamations of American citizens and God-honoring groups whose biblical beliefs inform their political views.

We have good reason to be concerned about the dangerous precedent set by the SPLC’s labeling and subsequent media parroting of their narrative. In 2012, a gunman opened fire at the headquarters of Family Research Council (FRC), injuring a security guard. A self-styled LGBTQ activist, Floyd Lee Corkins II cited the SPLC’s designation of FRC as a “hate group” as his motivation (NewsBusters, Feb. 2013).

Unfortunately, being on the SPLC hate group list has far-reaching implications. Some corporations have been known to refuse to match donations to organizations on this list, and certain donor-advised funds might not allow contributions to be directed to us. This potential reduction in funds comes as we work diligently to oppose the dangerous woke agenda that is decidedly anti-family.

We must be vigilant and aware of the potential risks such irresponsible and biased accusations can bring.
