“What a Bunch of Hooey!”
I thought it best to look up that term to make sure my usage of it to describe what I’m about to share is correct. It is.
“Hooey” refers to “nonsense, foolish, or untrue talk, writing, or ideas.” It can be used as a noun or an an interjection for expressing disbelief.
Once again, the Washington Post (or WAPO if your prefer) has blessed us with the ridiculous claim by the so-called “rich” that they neither need nor want a tax cut. And…they’re anti-Trump. Of course.
They cite examples. Like Kimberly Hoover. She and her “wife” are multimillionaires via real estate. They live high on the rich-folk hog taking ski trips, drinking fine wine, and visiting Europe for extended trips. When they dine, the couple often chooses Michelin-star restaurants. Must be nice, eh?
When Kimberly checked with her accountant, she learned that the tax bill recently signed by Donald Trump would net her several million buckaroos in just a few years. This blue-blooded American did not take this news sitting down. Well, maybe she did. After all, she had been busy working to stop Donald in his rich man tracks by “arguing with lawmakers that she has more money than she needs.” Well good for her!
The new tax law that President Donald Trump signed in August would be giving taxpayers back money that is rightfully theirs! While many Americans might rejoice at that kind of windfall, Hoover worked hard to stop it from becoming a reality. She argued to lawmakers that she has more money than she needs.
From the WAPO article, I now quote to you her words:
“At some point, it starts to feel wrong. It starts to feel excessive. It starts to feel somehow inappropriate. And at some point, it just doesn’t feel good.”
(Please note my crocodile tears.)
Supposedly, she’s not alone. Many in this filthy rich group supposedly are on board with her and “fiercely oppose the president” and policies he advocates that would make their money piles higher.
(I wonder if the Governor and his fellow Pritzkers are telling the president, “Stop. Stop. We’re TOO rich!!” Apparently, somewhere very deep down, it weighs heavily on their souls.)
Illinois has its own share of relatively fat cats. My Patch news source reports that Illinois has 16 billionaires on the latest Forbes list. Put ‘em all together and you get a combined $132.8 billion. And the richest of them all who appears in the Forbes 400 ranking of the wealthiest Americans is Lukas Walton, who is worth an estimated $39.8 billion.
Walton…Walton…now where have I heard THAT name before? Like maybe an heir to Walmart founder Sam Walton? You betcha! Along with his investment business, he donates to social and environmental causes such as sustainable food, clean energy, and ocean preservation. A true progressive!
Don’t know if he gives an Arkansas hoot about the Trump tax bill. After all, he lives in Chicago.
But now to my point. Walton gives away a lot of money. Yeah, I know. There are several benefits of doing this to the donor. Yet if it’s truly helping others, hey, go for it.
Now tell me. What kind of brain believes Uncle Sam is better at spending the money God has graciously provided than the individual from whom it is being “stolen”?
Progressives, it seems.
If, Mister or Ms Rich Person, you are so concerned that others may be deprived of your wealth, here’s an idea! Give MORE of it away yourself! Or better yet, give it ALL away! Now that’s radical!
It’s also what Jesus told one chap—a rich young ruler—who thought he’d done enough to make the cut for heaven. Jesus said in essence, (like Lee Corso) “Not so fast, my friend.” The Bible says,
“And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, ‘You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.’” (Mark 10:21, ESV)
The young man walked away.
Wealth can be so dangerous.
Without Godly wisdom, you can be both rich…and foolhardy.
