Ever wonder where your tax dollars go? Of course you don’t! Just read a few of the news stories in any given week and you’ll have your answer.

Last summer, President Biden convinced Congress to move forward with aid to Ukraine. The package was valued at $2.1 billion. The funds were to support “Ukraine’s near-and-long-term capabilities to defend its territory and deter Russia.”

But as we’ve come to learn with government spending, it is never enough. This year, a couple hundred million more will be headed to Zelensky and his forces. It still won’t be enough. Please don’t act surprised.

Just a couple of weeks ago, our pocketbooks cried a little more with these headlines:

  • Voters Don’t Seem to Care Biden Spending $1T to Battle Climate Change
  • Biden’s next student debt relief plan will cover more than 30M borrowers

Wait…was that first item ONE TRILLION DOLLARS to tackle the ubiquitous climate change?? Lest you worry your pretty little head, we’re told in the article,

“The money comes primarily from the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which contains provisions for tax credits, grants, and loans for clean energy.”

Notice that clever logic: spend more, reduce inflation! How stupid do they think we are? Don’t answer.

Let’s add a third headline: “Biden Administration Makes Rule Change to Give Taxpayer-Funded Health Insurance to 100,000 Illegal Immigrants”

As you shed tears watching our economy splurge on nonsense, consider some words by one of the “experts.” Jared Bernstein is the chief economic adviser to President Biden. He was asked to articulate the principles of modern monetary theory that underlie the administration’s significant spending initiatives.

The Daily Caller shared that Bernstein “stuttered and pondered as he attempted to explain why the U.S. government borrows money when it is capable of printing its own currency.”

Here’s an actual transcript from that interview in a documentary titled, “Finding the Money,” where Bernstein was asked why the U.S. borrows when we can print:

Jared Bernstein:

“Well, um, the uh … so the … I mean, again, some of this stuff gets — some of the … language that — some of the language and concepts are just confusing. I mean, the government definitely prints money and it definitely lends that money, which is why … um … the government definitely prints money and then it lends that money by, uh, by selling bonds. Is that what they do? … They, they uh … they, yeah, they um … they sell bonds … yeah, they sell bonds. Right? Since they sell bonds and then people buy the bonds and lend them the money.”

The Daily Caller said that Bernstein continued to struggle “explaining the basic concepts about U.S. monetary policy.”

So much for spending with Daddy Warbucks. But how about Ms. Warbucks? Check this out!

As we all ponder what the departed Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been doing with her time, we learn she has a new gig! Lori is now being paid $400 per hour to look for evidence of alleged corruption of another mayor! I kid you not. You can read all about it here. (*NOTE: this story gets more complex.)

Chicago’s former mayor has convinced herself of the fine job she did while in office. Her words,

“As someone who has made good governance the cornerstone of my career in public service, I recognize that maintaining the trust of those you serve and making decisions in their best interests is essential.”

It seems Chicago voters came to a different conclusion on that. Meanwhile the Mayor of Dolton under watch, Tiffany Henyard, indicated she would not cooperate with the investigation. Perhaps that has changed. I’ve heard Illinois prisons can be rough.

I know what the Bible says about our conduct with government. The epistle writer Paul advised in Romans, chapter 13:

“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” (Vs 1, NIV)

In verse 6 Paul adds,

“This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.”

Does this mean we should not responsibly oppose unfair or improperly used tax dollars? Of course not. Or tolerate wasteful political spending!

It’s just sad that we have to pay $400 an hour to clean up our messes. The real Daddy Warbucks would have none of it.
