In many ways the Lord has answered our prayers and been merciful to us as a nation. Praise be to the God of heaven for His kindness and blessings!
We did not deserve this—never forgot it.
And so may we be grateful to God for His wise providential plan to provide grace, enabling so many of our fellow American citizens to exercise common sense in this election. Praising God is entirely appropriate for true Christians who understand what was at stake.
The Democratic party was and remains proudly at war with the Creator God and is little better than a demonic death cult (as is evidenced by their party’s platform and key talking points. (See Pastor Jon Benzinger for a concise excellent overall breakdown). The Democrats/the left were defeated at many levels across our country last night—Praise God!
And why should we praise God? Because the agenda of the Democrats/the left is overwhelmingly marked by those who:
- Repeatedly and shamelessly pushed/push for the most radical state-sanctioned murder of precious preborn baby girls and boys (The destruction of the most vulnerable and voiceless neighbors among us. There was hardly a “safe, legal, and rare” qualification.)
- and as such, they assault this life-giving institution, which blesses children and leads to stability and human flourishing in our nation.
- Championed Covid lie, after lie, after lie, (More than anyone by far. Read Dr. Jay Bhattacharya for a devastating takedown here.), called for lockdowns, put severe pressure on/penalized Americans who would not take the experimental jab/“vaccine”.
- Emotionally rush to wrong judgments that fit their narrative of a “racist” America. The Democrats/the left promote ethnic wars and hostility (Think the trainwreck of “BLM”),
- Made foolish claims about American police officers, making them objectively less safe and able to do their jobs with appropriate confidence (Think “defund the police”)
- Mock real women and take away their opportunities to excel and achieve victories, while showing favoritism for the feelings of emotionally unstable, confused boys.
So yes, faithful Christians can and should gladly praise God for the defeat of these objectively reckless evils that their nation, neighbors, and families were protected from. Listen to this short clip of what President Trump clearly noted he would do Day 1 to stop the gender insanity and mutilation of our youth.
His opponent and the left celebrate and promote the opposite. So yes, it is indeed a glorious election week, worth celebrating and praising God for (More on this matter below because we obviously want him to fulfill it and must hold him to it.) Another reason for celebration is—as Dr. Calum Miller rightly noted—though pro-aborts overwhelmingly outspent pro-lifers on the abortion referendum in Florida ($118 million to $12 million) pro-lifers won!
Praise God for His mercy! And not only in Florida, but election night was also—as Dr. Miller put it—“a political earthquake for the pro-life cause.” Why? Because as Dr. Miller notes,
“After losing every single ballot initiative until now, pro-lifers won FOUR ballot initiatives all in one night (Florida, South Dakota, two in Nebraska).”
Praise the Lord for this victory! Pre-born girls and boys won. Young women and mothers won. Truth and justice won. God was merciful far more than we deserved.
So yes, rejoice Christians!
At the presidential level, God has not simply given us one evil instead of another evil because both Joe Biden or Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are all fallen sinners, who need forgiveness for their sins and reconciliation to God through Jesus Christ alone. Not even close. Such thinking is immature and childish.
There is a massive difference between being a champion of multiple abominable evils God clearly hates versus not speaking up as forcefully or acting as consistently or courageously against evil and for good as one should. (Yes, this is a reference to John Piper’s post on X, and I say this with much affection for the man—he is just wrong on this).
Proper Perspective
Yet even as we rejoice over God’s many mercies to our nation, there is still much work to be done. We are still at a place where we ought to declare and remember often it is still “Revival or Bust!” (as Steve Deace often rightly says). We cannot lose sight of the need for this prayer, and we need to have a proper perspective.
Many of our fellow Americans no longer attend church and do not understand the basics of the Bible. And if you are reading this and you are a faithful, God-fearing Christian who takes God at His Word, you must realize many Christians were apathetic this election and sat out, refusing to vote (presumably because Jesus was not on ticket anywhere).
Several unjust and truly evil measures were passed codifying abortion into state laws, protecting preborn baby murder and making it lawful. So it was not a total victory at all. In fact we ought to grieve it as Pastor Gabe Hughes rightly notes). In Illinois, the IVF advisory referendum showing a serious confusion and need to learn about IVF .
Many Christians do not know or care to know their elected officials. They do not know the laws of our nation, and even worse, there are many in our nation who profess faith in Christ but do not possess faith in Christ. They are content in their ignorance, and many of them enjoy using the pious-sounding “Politics isn’t really my thing” or “Politics is an idol for so many Americans” lines.
It is hard not to see both of these as anything but overly-spiritualized attempts to cover up their own ignorance and excuse their apathy. In our churches, of course, there are those who are falsely converted and need Christ. Others need to be lovingly rebuked to get off their high horse. They need to be discipled in a biblical view of politics.
And perhaps a few need to be reminded that they might not be politically informed enough. Our churches are sadly in a state of desperate doctrinal decay. And after they relate to this, we must begin to recover an appropriate political thought.
Beyond the church, a growing and popular kind of conservativism is afoot. It is correct on a number of things, but it is Christless and lacks the fear of God and biblical rootedness. Extremely talented and influential individuals, such as Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, Joe Rogan, Elon Musk, and Dana White (as well as many others) reject the Lord Jesus Christ (albeit in their own individual often friendly and non-hostile ways) yet voted for President Trump.
They are doing much to shape the lives and worldviews of our neighbors and will continue to hold this sway.
Many so called conservatives now support sodomy and children with sodomites. (See this sad thread of when Dave Rubin shared news of his partner and his new of children. Note the number of “conservative influencers” celebrating an obviously sinful and sexually immoral relationship as well as being overjoyed at the prospect of intentionally motherless children—Tyler Carditis,CEO of the Blaze, Sara Gonzales of the Blaze, and Joel Pollack, Christopher Rufo).
Many on the right have cozied up to the godless and leftist view concerning sexual immorality, marriage, children, IVF, and more. True Christians stand in opposition to this, declaring God is God—the Creator and the Lord, and they live under His authority and in accord with His good design.
Far too many foxes are in the conservative America-first henhouse, and they all need to be called to repent and agree with King Jesus. (Strategically? Yes. Obnoxiously? Maybe so, maybe no. But straightaway and without shame). The Republican party is a big tent of many people who do not share commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise God some, even many, perhaps do (but not all and almost certainly not most, though more than the Democrats by far).
We must model commitment to excellence in our vocations and professional lives and realize that the old model of evangelical political engagement (or lack thereof) is quickly fading (and good riddance).
Pressing Forward
Though we thank God for His mercy and grieve the compromises and defeats, we also must press forward. It is indeed a very dangerous moment for the pro-life movement (as Dr. Callum Miller rightly notes in this shrewd thread and I could not agree more). And it is a dangerous moment for Christians. We cannot sit back and coast. We must bear witness for the risen Lord Jesus Christ where the Lord has placed us. .
So far fifty babies have been saved, and next week brother Juan Riesco and Love Life are throwing their first baby shower for a mother they met outside the clinic, which was scheduled to abort her baby. She chose life! Praise God for the many saints involved in this important work! And may God be glorified and may we all work more zealously to see abortion completely hated and altogether abolished in Illinois.
God can do this, friends, and as His gospel goes forth and changes and transforms sinners, they will no longer hate what God loves or love what God hates!
Along with this public witness wherever we are, God calls us to be committed to our spouses, to raising our children the way they should go, to growing together with our local churches, to evangelizing our neighbors, to working hard at our jobs, and to caring about and praying for the civil magistrates and the laws they will promote.
We ought to hold President Trump and any other civil magistrates feet to the fire on this (respectfully of course). And we must hope and pray President Trump becomes the version Kamala Harris tried to sell to voters—the one who Harris declared is “proud of overturning Roe vs. Wade and if given the chance would ban abortion nationwide.”
Right now, as far as I can tell, this version of President Trump honestly does not seem to be the case. But let us pray for President Trump and J.D. Vance, the Senate, and the House, and the civil magistrates at state and local levels to do what is right, good, and just.
Let us pray they would encourage the proper use of the sword God has entrusted to them as servants, who ought to praise those who do good and punish and be a terror to true evildoers. We must hold politicians accountable and remember they work for us; we do not work for them. Yes, we honor them (1 Pet. 2:17), but we citizens of this nation are instrumental to our government. Jason Storms perhaps put it best when he said,
“It is right and good that you know your politicians but even more than this your politicians need to know you.”
Our nation has been granted a mercy from God.
Yet what will do with this reprieve? Preach the gospel more boldly and faithfully? Yes, I hope and pray we do. Make disciples of Jesus Christ more committedly? Yes, I hope and pray we do. Recognize many fellow citizens may be conservative but do not share our commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, so we must bear witness to them? Yes, I hope and pray we do.
It is not enough to have the right views on certain matters. American men, women, boys, and girls desperately need God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness found in Jesus Christ alone. Most Christians are far too apathetic and not as engaged as they should be in the civic realm. On this note, I appreciated what Rhett Burns shared here as to why pastors should post about politics online).
The True Church of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ Must Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing.
God’s gospel is His power unto to salvation for all who believe (). The gospel is what we have been entrusted with (1 Thess. 2:4) and the Lord has given His blood-bought redeemed-and-forgiven people the marching orders of the gospel and the Great Commission. We are to be and to make disciples of King Jesus, baptizing them in the triune name of God, learning together and teaching other disciples to observe all that Christ commanded (Matt. 28:18–20).
We ought to be zealous for the good works, which God has prepared beforehand that we should walk in them (Eph. 2:10; Tit. 2:14). We are blessed to be citizens of this country, but a vastly superior blessing is that by God’s grace, we possess citizenship in heaven (Phil. 3:20). This means, while on earth, we must conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel (Phil. 1:27). We must keep our main message clear—preach Christ and Him crucified (1 Cor. 1:23). The grace of God has appeared bringing salvation for all men (Tit. 2:11).
Our fellow Americans need to hear afresh and be evangelized anew. We must prayerfully and humbly direct them to the Lord God and His righteous law. Neighbors, civil magistrates, coworkers, friends, and unsaved family must understand their true plight before the God who is Holy, Holy, Holy (Isa. 6:3).
Learn how to do this in your local community, and then lovingly go and do so. (See Pastor Matthew Trewhella as one model of this here, Pastor Jeff Durbin here, and pastor Tyler Turdici here in Illinois.) Civil magistrates and neighbors must hear constantly from us of the unrivaled majesty, glory and supremacy of God in Jesus Christ. Urge them to kiss the Son. (See Psalm 2 and listen to this excellent rendition of this Psalm).
Yes with love and grace and affection and humility. But they need to hear of this God and His gospel!
Life is short. Eternity is long, and Jesus Christ alone is the way to the Father and the way to peace with God, full forgiveness for sins, and everlasting life (John 14:6; Rom. 5:1; John 3:14-17).
We cannot settle for weak-sauce family worship in our homes. We must firmly reject and rebuke cowardice in pastors in pulpits (Tit. 1:9). There ought to be no compromise of the truth but a strong commitment to it among those who bear the title Christian (2 Cor. 6:14). Among our local churches, we must care deeply about loving our fellow covenant church members in a way that is consistent with the truth (1 Cor. 13:6).
We must practice faithful, careful, loving church discipline (Matt. 18:15-20). And we must not be taken advantage of by wolves in sheep’s clothing and false teachers.
Be Done Being Influenced by False Teachers and Christian “Leaders” Who Compromise
During this election cycle many wolves—who claimed to be Christians—belittled, mocked, betrayed, and condemned us. Many of them no doubt secretly ended up voting against biblical values, even as they eloquently urged us to abandon biblical values.
These individuals should be marked and avoided, forgotten and ignored. Don’t buy their books. Don’t go to their conferences. Don’t support them. Don’t share their posts (even when they are right about something). They are done and deserve to be done influencing evangelical Christians.
It is one thing for a Christian to say he or she could not in good conscience support President Trump and JD Vance or any Republicans due to their (perceived) softening on abortion and marriage. While I think this is very unwise in that it misunderstands the nature of voting in a fallen world, I can understand it.
However, it is intolerable that when self-confessing Christians urge votes for candidates who openly avow to continue to champion and celebrate the goodness of preborn child murder and who openly defy God and celebrate sexual immorality and perversity. And not only that, but also, they have misused the sword and even unlawfully abused their power against citizens and Christians. (See Kamala saying this here and Harris’ push for forced vaccines against people’s will).
We can only surmise they would continue to misuse the sword in the future. These Christians show a grotesque pride and a blindness and folly, demonstrating they are unfit to lead anything. You must call them to humbly repent. Do not follow cowards or confused or compromised so-called Christians. They are either very immature Christians who need to be discipled or not Christians at all.
For anyone (on the left or the right) to minimize or ignore the objective horror of preborn-baby slaughter is itself evil. To act as if it is one among many important “issues” is foolish (whether it is said on the left or the right).
If they were right on these issues, hold your elected civil magistrates accountable, and encourage them to do what is just and right. Stay informed.
One opportunity for this is to join us next week in Palatine at New Hope Community Church November 14, 2024 to learn more from two medical doctors about the Great Covid Con: What Went Wrong and Why.
If you do not want to remember Covid, please at least remember this data about who wanted to harm you (and note that there are far too many Rs, as well):
Our fellow citizens, our neighbors, were greatly deceived on COVID and ready to act against us and even harm us (as well as other law-abiding Americans). and we must press forward teaching, training, educating, and doing our very best to humbly yet diligently call on people to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ and also to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ and to think seriously to God’s glory.
The above chart represents the thinking of an unthinking fear-driven foolish brute. It is unbecoming for any person to think that the above is good or right, and we should pray for the repentance of those who thought this way.
We press on with thankfulness to God for His many mercies, with grief for backward steps, concerning matters pertaining to life. And we press on with confidence that Jesus Christ is on His throne, and one day full and final justice will come.
And in the meantime, let us be gospel people.
Bible people. Jesus people. Truth people. Discerning People. Eternity-minded, kingdom of God-oriented people.
And always joyfully and without shame!
All Glory be to God!
