We stand at a remarkable moment in history, in a nation abundantly blessed by God’s grace. Yet, these are also turbulent times, marked by division and moral confusion, where good is too often labeled evil, and evil is too often called good. Still, we enjoy an unparalleled quality of life, vast financial prosperity, and political freedoms that inspire envy across the globe. These blessings call us to gratitude and responsibility, to steward these things for God’s glory.
If we believe Scripture when it tells us to pray for all in authority “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence,” and that the “fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much,” we must respond in obedient faith. (1 Timothy 2:1-5; James 5:16)
The Lord put this prayer for our nation on my heart this week:
Thank You Lord, for Your abundant love and care for us in the U.S. We are humbled by the many ways—both seen and unseen—that You watch over this land and sustain us by Your grace. Help us live gratefully every day.
We lift up our government officials. May they humble themselves before You, seek wisdom from the Word, and govern in a way that honors Truth. Please turn their hearts and minds toward You, and give them courage to uphold what is good, right, and just.
We also pray for our families, our neighbors, and our fellow citizens. May they come to know the breadth and length and height and depth of the love of Christ. Stir them to turn from fleeting worldly pursuits and embrace Jesus—the way, the truth, and the life—living fully for Your glory.
We pray for deep and widespread conviction to uphold the sanctity of human life and a renewed commitment to biblical marriage and family.
We pray for strong fathers who will lead and disciple their families in the faith.
We pray for strong churches and bold preachers who will proclaim the Gospel. Grant them courage and wisdom to speak Your truth with clarity and grace. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, and keep them faithful to the sacred calling You have placed on their lives.
We pray for our military leaders and the brave members who serve under them. Grant them strength, wisdom, and vigilance as they face the challenges set before them. May their service be marked by honor and courage. Pray that our nation’s military power be used with restraint and purpose, to defend the innocent, uphold justice, and ultimately foster lasting peace.
We pray for the men and women who serve as first responders in our communities—police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and emergency personnel. Thank You for their courage, their sacrifice, and their willingness to run toward danger in order to protect and save others. Grant them strength in the face of exhaustion, wisdom in moments of crisis, and peace in the midst of chaos. Shield them from harm as they serve on the front lines.
We pray for state and federal officials to despise corruption and govern with integrity. May God raise up candidates who walk in wisdom and righteousness, and may He remove every wicked leader from office across America.
We offer these appeals in faith, knowing we are neither alone nor powerless, but upheld by the mighty name of Jesus our Lord and empowered by the Holy Spirit. May His will be done, on earth, as it is done in heaven.
