In Springfield, rules are often ignored. Many times, we see legislative deadlines extended so that the bill’s sponsor can accumulate the votes they need to move their bill. The “deadline” to get bills out of Illinois Senate Committees was Friday, March 28th. But here we are.
SB 9, one such bill with its deadline extended, will permit doctors to prescribe lethal drugs to end a person’s life. It has been assigned to the Senate Executive Committee for a hearing which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9th at 3 PM in Room 212 in the Capitol.
The devil always appears as an angel of light. He is a liar and will always be a liar. And he comes to kill, steal, and destroy those that God loves. Assisted suicide fits right into his plan perfectly.
We believe assisted suicide is also a rejection of God and His sovereign ability to bring something good out of suffering. There is no more perfect example than Jesus’s suffering on the cross for our sins.
“End-of-life care,” as they call it is an oxymoron. Killing a human being is not “care.” Assisted suicide is the ultimate devaluation of human life, that part of creation that God called “very good.” If we are to love our neighbor, assisted suicide must be stopped.
The safeguards they claim that are in the bill will be removed, as they have been in other countries and states. Of the 10 states that have legalized assisted suicide, 5 already have pending legislation to weaken them. In Canada and other countries, applications for assisted suicide have included non-terminal illnesses like diabetes and anorexia. Some family members, grieving the loss of a loved one who chose to end their life by assisted suicide, claim they were depressed or mentally unable to make this irrevocable decision.
A Canadian veteran suffering from PTSD tried to get help and was offered assisted suicide instead. Can’t you see where this is going? Will insurance companies opt to cover a lethal drug rather than costly medical care? We are already teetering on the edge of the slippery slope with this upcoming hearing.
The kingdom of man and the Kingdom of God are diametrically opposed. We live in a post Christian society where God’s standards and ethics are in steep decline. We live in a society where total trust in a loving God and true worship is given a cursory glance at best, if at all. Instead, many worship their own gods of self-determination, self-exultation, self-indulgence. We see it in SB 9.

MORE ACTION NEEDED
HB 2827, the Homeschool Act that will impose fines and jail time on parents that don’t register their homeschooled child with the local school district is purposely being stalled. Fiscal notes have been and will continue to be filed and the bill can’t be called until the agency receiving the note responds with the data being requested. In addition, some unlikely allies are working hard to defeat HB 2827. State Representative La Shawn Ford homeschools his children. He held a press conference to oppose HB 2827 and was joined by several black pastors and others. Praise God that they may have even swayed a few votes from the Black Caucus!

HB 2589 provides that a pharmacist shall (rather than may) sell up to 100 sterile hypodermic syringes or needles to a person who is at least 18 years of age. There’s not one good reason to pass this bill other than to invite 18-yr-old addicts to shoot their injectable drug of choice.

HB 2927 suspends history from being taught in schools for the 2025-2026 school year while new 2026-2027 school year textbooks will reframe history with the inclusion of “diverse perspectives, contrary interpretations, and the viewpoints from various groups … traditionally excluded.” Lawmakers have already made it an 8th grade graduation requirement that students be proficient in LGBTQ history. This will likely expand that and more.

HB 2960 requires public school health education courses to include instruction in mental health that would include LGBTQ propaganda and would keep pupil’s mental health information confidential from everyone, which would include parents. The bill states that students would be given instruction on how to find help from professionals within the school. Are these the same professionals that allow boys in the girls’ locker rooms and bathrooms and ones that refer to transitioning students by the wrong pronoun and name?

HB 3637 amends numerous health care laws. Prohibits the Illinois Department of Health from taking disciplinary action against a person who has had their license, registration, and/or permit revoked from another state as a result of violating the state’s laws against certain procedures, such as abortions, and allows that person to practice in Illinois. Additionally, a drug not approved by the Food & Drug Administration, but one that has been recommended by the World Health Organization shall not be deemed an adulterated drug, even if the drug’s labeling reflects prior approval that is no longer in effect.
