Illinois State Senator Karina Villa (D-West Chicago) is the chief sponsor of a pro-abortion bill (HB 3637) that would amend numerous Illinois health care laws. This bill was sponsored in the Illinois House by State Representative Dagmara Avelar (D-Romeoville), and co-sponsored by 24 other representatives. It passed the House by a vote of 67 to 39 on April 7th.
If enacted, this proposal would prohibit the Illinois Department of Health from taking disciplinary action against a person who has had their medical license, registration, and/or permit revoked in another state as a result of violating the state’s laws against certain medical procedures, such as abortion and sex reassignment surgery. In other words, unethical doctors who have had their medical licenses revoked can come to Illinois to practice medicine here.
We can’t help but wonder if it’s part of their plan to legalize physician assisted-suicide, which they are working tirelessly on before the session’s May 31st adjournment date.
Think about it. At its April 2025 annual meeting, the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) overwhelmingly voted to oppose Senate Bill 9, which would legalize physician assisted-suicide. This decision reflects the stance of most Illinois doctors against prescribing lethal medications. This opposition poses a challenge for legislators supporting the bill.
If enacted, could this law also protect medical practitioners who are willing to provide “gender-affirming care,” including treatments like puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries, to minor children? This is particularly relevant given that 26 states now have laws or policies restricting or banning such abusive medical interventions.
Of course, we don’t know this for a fact, but it makes sense.
But there’s more to the bill. An amendment that was added to this bill
provides that a drug’s status as not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration shall not cause it to be deemed an adulterated drug in violation of the Act if it is recommended for use by the World Health Organization (rather than if its safety and efficacy have been established by peer-reviewed research or if it is recommended for use by the World Health Organization). Emphasis added.
It appears that Illinois lawmakers don’t have a problem with bypassing FDA drug testing and safety standards, to instead look to a group that operates outside of the United States for direction on drugs that may or may not be safe. The World Health Organization are the same people that also recommended school closures, masks, and unproven vaccines for school-aged children during COVID. The big question is, can they be trusted?
HB 3637 is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM in Room 212 of the Capitol.
