Earlier this week, the Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) condemned the recent development of the Congressional “Sharia-Free America Caucus.”
According to CAIR-Chicago, the Caucus is attempting to undermine the religious freedoms and Constitutional rights of millions of Americans and promote harmful information regarding Islam.
Representative Mary Miller (R-IL) was recently called upon by CAIR-Chicago to withdraw herself from the Caucus and reaffirm to Illinois residents her commitment to protecting their religious liberties.
But here’s the truth. “Sharia-Free America Caucus” is not in any way prohibiting the free exercise of religion among Muslim Americans.
Muslims are free to attend their mosques and practice their religion without fear of persecution.
What this Caucus is designed to do is to ensure that Sharia Law does not gain a legal foothold in the United States and further states that Islamic values are incompatible with Western civilization values and the U.S. Constitution.
While CAIR-Chicago plays the role of a victim, it draws attention away from the truth.
What they fear is exposing what Sharia really is.
For those who don’t understand Islam and the repercussions of having Sharia enshrined in law, this is what Sharia Law teaches.
Sharia Law is the moral code of Islam that is derived from their holy books, the Quran, Sunnah, and Hadith.
In the strict enforcement of Sharia Law, women are mistreated and often abused by this “moral” code.
Former Muslim, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, explains the horror of Sharia for women in Heretic,
“Repeatedly, women are considered under the code to be worth at most “half a man.” Sharia subordinates women to men in a multitude of ways: the requirement of guardianship by men, the right of men to beat their wives, the right of men to have unfettered sexual access to their wives, the right of men to practice polygamy, and the restriction of women’s legal rights in divorce cases, in estate law, in cases of rape, in court testimony, and in consent to marriage.”
Nonie Darwish had first-hand experience in what it was like to grow up under Sharia Law. In her book, Cruel and Usual Punishment, she recounts:
“For the first thirty years of my life, I lived as a virtual slave. I was a bird in a cage; a second-class citizen who had to watch what I said even to my close friends. Under Islamic law I had to live in a gender-segregated environment and always be aware that the legal and social penalty for ‘sin’ could end my life…
It [Sharia Law] allows a woman seen without a headdress to be flogged, punishes rape victims, and calls for beheading for adultery. I never questioned or challenged it — or dared to even think about its validity.”
Some states such as Texas and Minnesota have started implementing and allowing portions of Sharia Law in different communities.
According to the Center for Renewing America,
“In 2023, Minneapolis, Minnesota, became the first major U.S. city to allow broadcasts of the Muslim call to prayer (salah) at all hours; it can now be heard over speakers five times a day, year-round.16 This call to prayer, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, is pivotal for establishing Islam’s dominance over a particular area or population. It is a means of soft conquest, and not only have Somalis in Minneapolis explicitly stated their preference for Sharia law17 but individuals have attempted to enforce Sharia in the streets.18 And earlier this year, Illinois became the first state to mandate Sharia-compliant meals at government schools and hospitals.19″
Despite what CAIR-Chicago would have you believe, the “Sharia-Free America Caucus” has nothing to do with hampering the Constitutional right to religious freedom.
It has everything to do with exposing Sharia and protecting women and girls from financial, physical, sexual, and emotional abuse from being normalized and encoded into law.
“My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6
