Derek Buikema, lead pastor of Orland Park Christian Reformed Church in Orland Park, Illinois interviewed one of the most influential Christian thinkers in America today, Grove City College Professor of Biblical and Religious Studies Carl Trueman, for Illinois Family Institute.

Dr. Trueman’s recent book, The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self: Cultural Amnesia, Expressive Individualism, and the Road to Sexual Revolution brought Dr. Trueman to public consciousness in a way rarely experienced by serious Christian scholars. The book and its subsequent, more concise companion book, Strange New World: How Thinkers and Activists Redefined Identity and Sparked the Sexual Revolution, explore how we have arrived at this strange cultural moment in which people claim they are trapped in the wrong-sexed body.

In this second part of Pastor Buikema’s interview, Dr. Trueman confirms the sense many people have that we truly are living in “unprecedented times,” and explores the reasons why this historical moment is unprecedented. He examines the absence of any transcendent justification for morality upon which a stable social order depends and the destabilizing effects of technology.
