On Wednesday, March 5th, one committee in the Illinois Senate and another committee in the Illinois House are scheduled to hear arguments for and against assisted-suicide legislation – Senate Bill 9 and House Bill 1328, respectively. We urge you to fill out witness slips for both committee hearings!
Proponents have titled their proposal, the End-Of-Life Options Act, but it only gives one option – death by suicide. They argue that people should have this “choice.” Where have we heard that before?!
Humans are deeply loved by their Creator to the extent that He died in our place and wants to be with us for eternity. This reveals God’s heart and His deep love for mankind, which, at creation, He called “very good.”
If God cherishes all human life, shouldn’t we do likewise? If God says to “choose life,” what makes us think we have the right to end it? If the second greatest commandment is to “love our neighbor,” is giving them the choice to end their lives loving them?
So what has changed that we now think it’s okay to end our own life or someone else’s, to do away with a life God treasures?
Eugenics, population control, abortion, climate change alarmism. These have all had an impact on devaluing human life.
Life has become nothing more than a commodity, something to be discarded when it is no longer deemed useful. We have devolved into a selfish society. We have lost the ability to love each other, to care and provide for each other. We are slowly losing the ability to feel compassion and empathy. We are slowly losing the ability to discern right from wrong.
Moreover, the recent testimony given by Dr. Matthew Eppinette about suicide contagion should alarm every one of us. Dr. Eppinette is the executive director of The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity, and he pointed out that suicidal behavior increases the likelihood of suicidal thoughts or actions in others, particularly among those who are vulnerable. Watch his 6-minute testimony HERE.
Please make your opposition to physician-assisted suicide known.
