Legislative Update for the Week of March 31, 2025

The Illinois Senate will be back in Springfield on Tuesday, April 1st. But the Illinois House will not be back until April 7th. All this week state representatives will be in their district offices so it is a good time to gather a few like-minded friends and schedule a visit with them. They need to hear from us!

Even as suicide, drug abuse, sexual depravity, gender confusion, illiteracy, and violence reach record levels among children in Illinois government schools, leftist lawmakers and far-left media propagandists are painting a target on the backs of homeschool families in the state.

Step Up, Illinois Homeschoolers

As of this week, 15 Illinois House members are willing to sign onto the 45-page legislation and support an unprecedented attack on parental rights. HB 2827 would diminish homeschool freedoms in the state.

Illinois Homeschool Freedoms at Risk!

Over the years, we have loved being able to tell people that Illinois was among the best states with homeschooling freedoms. That is thanks, in part to a 1950 case (People v. Levisen) in which the Illinois Supreme Court determined that the term "private school" included instruction given to a child at home, as long as the instruction was adequate.

Anti-Pregnancy Care Center Bill Signed Into Law by Gov. Pritzker

If you keep wondering how bad laws get made in Illinois, SB 1909 is a very good example. Yes, pundits have always compared law-making to sausage-making – a messy and unsavory process. But lawmaking in Illinois has reached a whole new level of butchery as a way to disguise or mask the quality of their work – it is so different from your “normal” backroom deals (which still happen, by the way).

Illinois State Lawmakers Move to Shut Down Pregnancy Care Centers

On February 9, the Illinois General Assembly introduced two bills—one in the House, one in the Senate—both entitled the “Deceptive Practices of Limited Services Pregnancy Centers Act.” The contents of HB 2463, introduced by State Representative Terra Costa Howard (D-Lombard) and  SB 1909, introduced by State Senator Celina Villanueva (D-Chicago) are identical, and both bills seek to radically curtail the operations of “limited services pregnancy centers.”
