On September 16th, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) unveiled his “Declaration for Life,” a strong statement which was crafted by a committee of pastors and spiritual leaders and which received over 50,000 signatures from Christian organizations and religious leaders within hours of its release.
In this declaration, Hawley calls on fellow citizens to boldly stand for the right to life as the most fundamental of all human rights and calls on Congress to ban the chemical abortion drug, Mifepristone.
“We think this declaration, written by pastors, is calling on spiritual leaders and everyday Christians across America to stand for life and to confront the scourge of chemical abortion. It is so critical on this the 250th anniversary of America,” Hawley commented.
The document states,
“We believe we have an obligation as Christians and spiritual leaders to remind our countrymen of what Scripture and conscience together proclaim: That every human being from the moment of our knitting together in our mothers’ wombs, was fearfully and wonderfully made. The divine image each human being bears was not earned. It cannot be forfeited. And it is the first duty of the Church to defend human dignity where it is denied…”
With only 7 other senators as co-sponsors, Senator Hawley has stood by his convictions to boldly stand for life and against the chemical abortion drug. In March of this year, Hawley introduced the controversial bill, “Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act.” S.4066 aims to strip Mifepristone of FDA approval, outlaw its distribution, and create the right to sue manufacturers for damages.
The House version, H.R 7902, was introduced by U.S. Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN1) and has 11 co-sponsors, including our own U.S. Representative Mary Miller (R-IL15).
As you may remember, Hawley received massive pushback for this bill from not only Democrats, but also Republicans along with President Trump.
For too long, our Representatives and Senators have been unwilling to touch the controversial issue of abortion. Even some pro-life organizations have been involved in stopping pro-life legislation in the name of “playing the game correctly.”
We are so thankful Senator Hawley is not one of those people. Hawley has proven himself to be a man who takes his faith and his position seriously, and he deserves all the support he can receive.
Though this Declaration has not been released to the widespread public for signatures, make sure to sign it as soon as it is released.
