When it comes to abortion, Governor J.B. Pritzker has only one goal: expand. In Illinois, he has consistently removed commonsense barriers to abortion.
In 2023, he formed a nonprofit, Think Big America, to export his brand of pro-abortion policy to other states, under the auspices of fighting “right-wing extremism.” He’s also set on Illinois hanging onto the dubious distinction of being a destination for abortion-minded women from pro-life states.
Philanthropy in Name Only
Just this past week, he announced the launch of the Prairie State Access Fund,
“a new initiative … to sustain and strengthen the reproductive health ecosystem across Illinois to ensure continued access for both residents of Illinois and those from across the country seeking abortion care.”
Partnering with the Michael Reese Health Trust (a public charity), the Fund leverages massive amounts of money toward making “comprehensive reproductive healthcare” more widely available to anyone, regardless of where they live.
How generous.
Pritzker’s office published a press release on the Fund’s launch, praising this new chapter in the growth of the Illinois abortion machine. It also included quotes from a veritable who’s who of pro-abortion bigwigs spouting nonsensical doublespeak. Here are just a few low points, with some notes:
“Together, we are sending a clear message in our state and across the country: Illinois trusts women to make their own medical decisions.” – J.B. Pritzker
* In this context, apparently, we know what women are and acknowledge that they, not birthing persons, carry babies in their (exclusive to women) wombs. Of course, the pre-born women in the womb are excluded from the opportunity to live, let alone survive to make their own medical decisions.
“For a lot of people, the services provided by this investment will be a sign of hope — hope that safe, dignified treatment is out there. No matter who you are or where you are from, you are welcome in Illinois, and we’ll make sure you get the care you need.” – Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton
* A procedure might be completed in a sterile, private environment—unless a woman is abandoned to face the consequences of the abortion pill at home— but that does not equate to safety or dignity for her or her unborn child. The abortion-minded woman is, in fact, told she ought to violently short-circuit who she was designed to be and then go on living as if it didn’t happen. There may be nothing in the world that is more opposed to hope than this.
“The Prairie State Access Fund strengthens a constellation of care that has been meeting this moment for years and reinforces the networks patients rely on to access abortion with dignity and compassion.” – Megan Jeyifo, Exec. Director of the Chicago Abortion Fund
* There’s that word “dignity” again. Oh, and we’re selectively applying compassion here, too. There is no dignity in killing one’s offspring nor in treating that unborn life as a burden and disposable. There is no compassion in lying to women about what a baby is and means for them or how they will feel after they make this irreversible decision, nor in ending an innocent life.
“For over more than four decades as a reproductive health physician, I have counseled countless patients whose pregnancies were deeply wanted but put their lives at risk. The Prairie State Access Fund reflects what clinicians know to be true: protecting reproductive healthcare is about safeguarding lives, dignity, and medically necessary care.” – Dr. Edward Linn, Michael Reese Health Trust Board Member
* Just to make this seem legitimate, here we have the medical provider talking about medically necessary abortions, which are essentially nonexistent. Miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy care are not abortion, but the abortion lobby continues shifting the focus there so that the pro-life ethic, and not theirs, can be labeled heartless, cruel, and evil.
Devastating Consistency
It’s no surprise to anyone paying attention that Pritzker is interested in expanding abortion access. The Prairie Fund press release even boasts of helping “fortify Illinois’ status as a haven for reproductive health, which Governor Pritzker has prioritized throughout his tenure.”
It goes on to tout eight of his “reproductive health initiatives,” some of which go beyond simply making abortion available to preying upon younger and younger women (i.e., repealing parental notification laws and increasing access to abortion in student health centers).
The Prairie State Access Fund is not philanthropy. This is millions of dollars’ worth of funding that should be used to heal and support, but is instead being weaponized against our state’s (and others’) youngest citizens. Though it’s difficult to imagine Governor Pritzker finding any other way to expand abortion beyond this, it would be foolish to bet against him.
- Pray for him and the other leaders involved in this effort, that they would see themselves clearly and be moved to repentance.
- Pray for our state.
- Pray for women at risk of choosing abortion.
- Pray God would frustrate the efforts of this fund.
This is not compassion. It is not dignity. It does not offer hope. It is not healthcare.
This is complicity with darkness wrapped in words emptied of their meanings.
