“Appeal to Heaven”: A Call to Prayer on SB 1950

Once again, we’re urging Christians across the nation—and especially here in Illinois—to pray earnestly and speak out boldly against the assisted-suicide bill now awaiting Gov. JB Pritzker’s decision.

According to NBC political reporter Mary Ann Ahern, Gov. Pritzker is expected to sign SB 1950 on Friday, as reported on her X account.

If you hold fast to the truth that “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much,” we invite you to join us in seeking the Lord’s intervention.

Take ACTION: Please pray that God would bring this dangerous agenda to a halt in Illinois. Ask the Lord to convict the heart and mind of Governor Pritzker — that he would see the grave consequences of normalizing suicide and refuse to sign SB 1950 into law. May God stir his conscience, overwhelm him with truth, and lead him to protect every vulnerable life in our state.

In a recent video calling believers to earnest prayer, IFI board member, Pastor Richard Giovannetti, underscores this critical point:

This is a dangerous slippery slope that we as Illinoisans need to make a stand on. We are living in a death culture attempting to slaughter our children and now our elderly people at any age simply because they no longer have a fit in society. I ask you, please contact Governor Pritzker’s office… and urge him to veto this bill immediately.

More ACTION: Please click HERE to email Governor JB Pritzker today and urge him to veto SB 1950. Tell him Illinois must protect the vulnerable — not promote assisted suicide as a so-called “solution.”

Please also call the Governor’s office in Springfield at 217-782-6830 or in Chicago at 312-814-2121.

It’s not just Christians who oppose physician-assisted suicide—some of the strongest and most consistent opposition comes from disability-rights organizations.

Groups like Not Dead Yet, Access Living, the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network, and the National Council on Independent Living warn that so-called “medical aid in dying” is built on dangerous assumptions about what makes life “worth living.” They point out that these laws create lethal pressure on the elderly, the chronically ill, and people with disabilities—especially those who already face medical bias, insurance denials, and subtle (or not-so-subtle) suggestions that their lives are burdensome.

Disability advocates rightly fear a system that offers death as a “treatment,” while real support, care, and resources remain underfunded or ignored. They argue that legalizing assisted suicide doesn’t expand freedom—it undermines safeguards for society’s most vulnerable.

Deliver those who are being taken away to death,
And those who are staggering to slaughter, Oh hold them back.
