Is Religion Gaining Traction?

A recent poll from Pew Research revealed that a growing number of American adults (31%) are seeing the rise of religious influence in everyday American life.

The Pew Research poll revealed that not only are American adults seeing the rise of religious influence, but also a growing share of the public (59%) is starting to view religious influence as a positive thing in American society.

From a biblical perspective, these findings are not all that surprising, even amongst the decay and degradation of our society.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 reveals that God “has also set eternity in the human heart.” From the Israel-Hamas war to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, to the rise of transgenderism and radical ideology in public schools, and so much more – it is spiritually natural for man to cling to some form of “higher power.”

Because, if you notice, the survey did not specify Christianity. It merely said “religion” which can encompass a host of practices far from Christianity or biblical morality.

In the midst of chaos and tumult, the human heart will either turn to God in repentance and faith, or it will seek spiritual substitutes.

Though it is encouraging to see the rise of positive attitudes towards religion, we as believers cannot grow apathetic in our proclamation of the gospel.

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

Ultimately, true peace amidst the chaos and uncertainty of this life is not more organized religion and is not more spiritual practices.

True peace amidst our chaotic world is found in Christ alone (John 16:33) – in a heart that is firmly anchored to God and His character.

“God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way,
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
and the mountains quake with their surging.” Psalm 46:1-3
