In anticipation of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026, President Donald J. Trump has launched an initiative called “America Prays.” The effort calls citizens to “prayer and rededication of the United States as One Nation Under God.”
The White House has encouraged prayer groups to organize around key themes—such as intercession for government leaders, cultural renewal, the protection of freedom, and the strengthening of families. Members are also invited to commit to daily prayer for a specific person or issue.
“America has always been a nation that believes in the power of prayer, and we will never apologize for our faith,” Trump declared at the September 8 announcement, delivered at the second hearing of the Religious Liberty Commission, hosted at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. He added:
“We will never surrender our God-given rights. We will defend our liberties, our values, our sovereignty, and our freedom. With the help of amazing faith communities across the land … we will truly make this the golden age of America.”
The initiative has already drawn broad support, with more than 70 organizations and leaders participating—including the Southern Baptist Convention, CatholicVote, WallBuilders, National Religious Broadcasters, Intercessors for America, and author Eric Metaxas.
HUD Secretary Scott Turner joined Trump at the event, offering a heartfelt prayer: “As we call our nation to pray … we pray for Your forgiveness. We pray, Lord Jesus, that You would give us great favor and understanding … as we bow our knee before You, as we humble ourselves before You.” Turner also asked for “healing and revitalization” and “new life” across the country.
Rev. Myles Holmes, pastor of REVIVE Church in Collinsville enthusiastically supports this new prayer initiative, saying:
“After a recent statement from a sitting U.S. Senator suggesting that our rights do not come from God, it is even more imperative that believers in America fast and pray and cry out to GOD in repentance, for revival and restoration. There is nothing impossible for GOD, so let’s believe together for the greatest spiritual awakening this nation has ever experienced.”
The White House has also published a 22-page resource titled Prayers and Proclamation Throughout American History, featuring historic moments of national prayer—from George Washington’s petitions for his army, to Benjamin Franklin’s prayer at the Constitutional Convention, to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s D-Day prayer in 1944.
As America approaches its semiquincentennial, “America Prays” seeks to unite believers in gratitude for God’s blessings and in humble petition for His continued guidance over the nation.
Scripture calls us to pray “for kings and all who are in authority.” As Christians, let’s faithfully lift up our nation and our local, state, and federal officials—asking God to guide, protect, and revive America. Our future depends entirely on His blessing and direction.
