If you live in Illinois and have private insurance through companies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Healthcare, your monthly premium is being used to help cover abortion services for both Illinois residents and those who are out-of-state. In addition to this, the private insurance plan must cover abortion services regardless of immigration status.
Under the 2019 Reproductive Healthcare Act and other legislation, such as the Birth Equity Act, health insurance companies in Illinois are mandated to include abortion coverage in their “pregnancy related care without extra costs like copays or deductibles.”
In addition to this, these laws provide no opportunity for Christians, Christian organizations or non-profits (like churches) to opt out on the basis of moral conscience.
This is, of course, a glaring issue for Christians and churches in the state of Illinois who are being forced to pay for abortions through their insurance provider.
These laws are a blatant violation of our First and Fourteenth Amendment rights which guarantee to us the right to the free exercise of religion and the right to due process.
The time for us to be complacent in these moral and legal infringements has come to an end.
Mitchell Law PLLC is planning to sue state officials who have for too long forced insurance companies, and therefore, you through your premiums, to pay for and be unwillingly complicit in abortion procedures.
However, they cannot be successful without your support.
According to the law group, the strongest co-plaintiffs for a case like this are churches and church employers because the free exercise of religion and matters of conscience is most clearly seen in religious organizations.
What this means is that it is imperative that you and your church join in this legal battle.
There is no charge for participation as the litigation is self-financing, and any legal fees will be covered by the defendants if the case is won.
If you or your church are interested in preserving your freedom of religion and conscience in the matter of abortion, please reach out to Mitchell Law PLLC today.
