Mifepristone and the Need for Transparency

Mifepristone and the Need for Transparency

Ever since the introduction of the abortion drug, mifepristone, pro-life organizations have warned on the very real dangers associated with this drug.

It has become increasingly clear in the past decade that women are lacking truthful information– making informed consent impossible when they take mifepristone.

The abortion drug is touted as “safe” and “effective” by abortion giants like Planned Parenthood and even the FDA when “used as approved and directed.”

The truth is the opposite.

According to the FDA’s own report, at least 36 women have died after taking the abortion pill.

Just recently, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) mentioned in a Senate Hearing,

“This abortion drug causes adverse health events in 11% of cases. That’s 22 times greater than the FDA label.”

Life News reports that between 5-10% of women who take mifepristone end up seeking emergency care for adverse events such as hemorrhaging, incomplete abortions, and infections.

The science is clear that mifepristone is not safe.

This is why the National Right to Life introduced the APPLE Act (the Abortion Pill Provider Liability and Education Act).

The APPLE Act is designed to protect women from the dangers of mifepristone by providing  correct information on the real dangers associated with taking this drug and accountability for providers when adverse health events occur. From Life News:

“The APPLE Act responds to mounting evidence that women are not being fully informed about the risks of chemical abortions and are too often left without recourse when serious complications occur.

The law empowers women and their families to hold abortion pill manufacturers, prescribers, and providers accountable for injuries, complications, trauma, or death — while preserving women’s privacy and dignity.”

Carol Tobias, President of National Right to Life, commented,

“The APPLE Act is about truth and accountability…

Women deserve full and honest information before taking abortion pills, and they deserve legal protection when something goes wrong.”

While I agree with informed consent and desire to see the APPLE Act passed into law, I want to make one truth abundantly clear.

In no way are pro-life activists and organizations advocating for a “safe” abortion drug.

The abortion drug is never safe because it starves and murders an innocent preborn life made in the image of God (Gen. 1:27).

While we should absolutely advocate for transparency and legal recourse for the harms associated with mifepristone, let us not lose sight of the real issue.

Abortions will never be “safe.”

As Christians. we must continue to fight for the complete eradication of abortion for the protection of all– both women and babies.

TAKE ACTION: Encourage your state lawmakers to cosponsor and support the APPLE Act.
