A Pro-Life Win for Science

A Pro-Life Win for Science

On Thursday, January 22nd, the NIH announced a huge pro-life win.

For decades, the government (aka your tax dollars) has funded scientific research involving fetal tissue from aborted babies.

CNN comments that fetal tissue has been “critical for certain research, including ways to fight HIV and cancer.” The Guardian notes that fetal tissue has also been used to research diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and infertility. It has also been used to develop vaccinations for polio, hepatitis A, and rabies.

In addition to this, many scientists are worried that there are not “adequate substitutes” to replace fetal tissue to continue research.

While scientists can continue to use fetal cells obtained from miscarriages, they prefer to use fetal cells obtained from elective abortions due to the fact that miscarriages can be caused by genetical or chromosomal issues while fetal tissue obtained from elective abortions are not “abnormal.”

This fact alone debunks the notion that the majority of abortions taking place are “medically necessary.”

If you are like me, I don’t feel sorry for the scientists who are bemoaning the fact that the loss of aborted fetal tissue is a possible loss for research.

Other alternatives for research include umbilical cord blood, adult stem cells, placental tissue, etc.

The dignity and value of preborn life is more important than any research that could be taking place for the “greater good of humanity.”

A moral society will do more for the health of society than any possible breakthroughs in science.

The Trump Administration ending the use of tax dollars to indirectly encourage the abortion practice in the name of “scientific research” is a pro-life win and moral step forward.

Abortion is the taking of an innocent human life that is made in the image of God (Gen. 1:27). The use of aborted fetal tissue just compounds the evil in this practice and is something that must be rejected.

In addition to this, the use of aborted fetal tissue, as mentioned previously, indirectly encourages abortion and creates a demand for the practice to continue.

While this scientific step is a moral win for the pro-life position, it is just one step of many to eradicating abortion completely– making it not only illegal but unthinkable.
