On July 19th, Vice President J.D. Vance announced via social media that he and his wife welcomed their fourth baby into their family.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
The arrival of the Vice President’s fourth child is making history in more than one way.
Not only is this baby the first to be born to a sitting Vice President in over 150 years, this beautiful addition to the Vance family is more than double the current average household as it pertains to birth rates.
We have known for some time that America is facing a crisis: declining birth rates and declining fertility rates. Currently, the fertility rate is around 1.6-1.7 births per woman, short of the replacement rate of 2.1 births per woman.
In his 2025 March for Life speech, President Vance commented,
“I want more babies in the United States of America.”
In addition to this, in a popular interview with podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey, who is also expecting her fourth baby, President Vance notes the turning point for him and his wife in making the decision to add another baby to their family.
In the aftermath of the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk, Vance recounts a conversation with Erika Kirk in which she relayed this desire:
“I wish we had had more children.”
This sealed it in the Vice President’s mind. Children were a blessing, and their family was ready for another one.
Scripture confirms this truth as well:
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate” (Psalm 127:3-5).
God has a high view of the family: of marriage and of children. While society tries to convince women that having children is a burden, the truth is this: having children is the biggest blessing you will ever experience.
Yes, the sacrifice is great. The tiredness is real. The responsibility can feel overwhelming at times. Nevertheless, the greatest joys in life do not come out of things that are easy and take no effort. The greatest joys in life come from the hard, and hard is not the same thing as bad.
