The Price of Life: What Is a Human Soul Worth?
Written By David E. Smith   |   01.23.26

In a world where nearly everything has a price tag, Pastor Jim Scudder asks a question that cuts to the heart of our culture’s deepest moral crisis: What is the value of a human life?

Drawing from firsthand experiences with orphaned and vulnerable children in China, Thailand, and Myanmar, Pastor Jim Scudder challenges the way modern society measures worth. Too often, value is assigned based on productivity, health, age, or convenience. Scripture tells a very different story. Every human being—born or unborn, healthy or disabled, young or old—bears the image of God and possesses eternal value.

In this powerful Sanctity of Life message, Pastor Scudder walks through God’s Word to show why human life cannot be reduced to utility or circumstance. From creation itself, God formed mankind in His image and breathed into us the breath of life. Our value is not only rooted in creation, but also in redemption—Christ Himself paid the ultimate price for every human soul.

The message also addresses abortion, assisted suicide, and the growing cultural pressure to redefine when life begins and when it is “worth living.” Through Scripture and the moving testimony of abortion survivor Claire Culwell, Pastor Scudder exposes the moral contradictions of our age while extending hope, forgiveness, and healing through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This sermon is both a sobering warning and a call to action. As Christians, we are called to choose life, defend the innocent, care for the fatherless, and speak truth with conviction and compassion in a culture that increasingly devalues life.

Watch the full sermon below and be encouraged to stand boldly for the sanctity of human life—from conception to natural death.
