An Illinois lawmaker has filed a bill to protect abortion facilities, that she considers “vital public facilities,” from “terrorist acts.”
HB 2679 – introduced by State Representative Margaret Croke (D-Chicago), and co-sponsored by State Representatives Terra Costa Howard (D-Lombard), Katie Stuart (D-Collinsville), and Martin Moylan (D-Des Plaines), is scheduled for a committee hearing next week, indicating the leadership is prioritizing it for passage.
This legislation would amend the Criminal Code of 2012, making it a Class X felony to cause harm to an “entity providing reproductive health care.”
We don’t condone, nor ever have, attacks on anyone or any facility even if that person commits acts of terror on unborn babies in the womb or acts of terror are literally taking place within the walls of that facility. Never.
Thomas Hampson, a former Air Force Intelligence Analyst, Chief Investigator for the Illinois Legislative Investigating Commission, and Chicago Crime Commission board member asks some good questions about this bill:
Why are they singling out buildings with reproductive health facilities? Are these big terrorist targets? Recent targets of terrorism have been Tesla dealerships. Bombings, vandalism, torching Teslas. Those are actual terrorists doing it. How about damage to campus buildings by pro-Hamas demonstrators. These, too, are terrorists. How many of those demonstrators have been arrested here in the last year and a half?
Moreover, in the last year 90 pregnancy care centers have been been set on fire, firebombed and vandalized. In addition, peaceful protesters have been arrested and sentenced to jailtime. Some elderly.
Catholic Vote tracks abortion activist attacks on Catholic churches. They have recorded over 400 since 2020!
Perhaps our pro-life lawmakers could file an amendment to HB 2679 that would include churches and vital pregnancy care centers that love and provide for the women so that they have the support they need to carry their child to term.
