Ms. Rachel is a popular YouTuber and social media personality known for her unique educational videos for children. She is most well-known for her children’s music series, Songs for Littles, which focuses on language and speech development in infants and toddlers.
On June 2nd, Ms. Rachel wished everyone a “Happy Pride!” on her various social media platforms.
Because of her predominantly young audience (infants and toddlers), her post sparked understandable outrage among parents. Due to the amount of backlash she received, Ms. Rachel took to social media on June 3rd to respond:
… my faith is really important to me, and it’s also one reason why I love every neighbor. In Matthew 22, a religious teacher asked Jesus what’s the most important commandment, and Jesus says to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself…
So yes, everyone belongs, everyone is welcome, everyone is treated with empathy and respect…
There are so many reasons I stand strong in love. I stand with everyone. That’s who I am.
Evidently, Ms. Rachel bases her support of “Pride” on her Christian faith.
Allie Beth Stuckey, political and cultural commentator, responded to Ms. Rachel’s theological claims and correctly points out:
Love is not defined by us… We read in 1 John 4:8 that “God is love,” and if God is love,… that means that He defines it.
Allie went on to note that one of the defining characteristics of love is described in 1 Corinthians 13:6, which says,
“… it [love] does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.”
