Illinois must decide whether to opt into the new Federal Scholarship Tax Credit program—allowing donors to fund education scholarships for students. At least 28 states have already opted in. Legislative Update for the Week of March 31, 2025

The Illinois Senate will be back in Springfield on Tuesday, April 1st. But the Illinois House will not be back until April 7th. All this week state representatives will be in their district offices so it is a good time to gather a few like-minded friends and schedule a visit with them. They need to hear from us!

Gaslighting, Smoke, Mirrors, & Money

Some Illinois lawmakers recently joined the licensed cannabis industry in calling for a ban on Delta-8 hemp products. This partnership has been a match made in heaven for the industry since Illinois lawmakers did their bidding by legalizing high-potency marijuana for recreational use.

And if you’re paying attention to the numerous, pro-drug bills still being filed (see below), you’ll conclude that these legislators are still in cannabis companies’ back pockets.

Hemp is the cousin of marijuana. It is used in food products, natural remedies, fabric, rope, and more. Hemp-derived CBD products are also sold widely.

Illinois State Lawmaker Wants to Usurp Parental Authority

interesting discussion between Dan Proft (Chicago's Morning Answer AM 560) and State Representative LaShawn Ford (D-Chicago) about his parental bullying bill, HB 29. The bill’s synopsis states that a parent commits “parental bullying” “when he or she knowingly and with the intent to discipline, embarrass, or alter the behavior of the minor, transmits any verbal or visual message that the parent or legal guardian reasonably believes would coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to the minor.”
