Legislative Update for the Week of May 5, 2025

Illinois state lawmakers are returning to Springfield on Tuesday and are scheduled to work through Friday. Even with the May 31st General Assembly adjournment date in sight, we dare not relax. Our adversaries are working diligently to pass dubious and dangerous bills.

Legislative Update for the Week of April 21, 2025

We just finished a week of relief as both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly adjourned and went home last week for Easter. The Illinois House is scheduled to return to the Capitol tomorrow. The Illinois Senate is scheduled to return next week, on April 29th.

Illinois Home Educators Face “Guilty Until Proven Innocent” Label

Wednesday morning, State Representative Terra Costa-Howard (D-Lombard) brought before the Illinois House’s Education Policy Committee an amendment to her “Anti-Homeschool Act’ that would - for the first time - require Illinois homeschooling families to register their students with the state.

AGAIN: Speak Out TODAY Against HB 2827

State Representative Terra Costa Howard (D-Lombard) has filed another amendment to HB 2827, "The Homeschool Act," in hopes of picking up more votes among her colleagues in the Illinois House. They are working overtime to try to pass this bill out of the House and move it over to the Illinois Senate this week.

As of this week, 15 Illinois House members are willing to sign onto the 45-page legislation and support an unprecedented attack on parental rights. HB 2827 would diminish homeschool freedoms in the state.
