When Nehemiah heard that the walls of Jerusalem lay in ruins and its gates burned with fire, he did not form a committee or draft a policy paper. He wept. He fasted. He prayed. And then he acted. In just 52 days, against intense ridicule and opposition, the walls of Jerusalem stood rebuilt.

As our nation continues to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary, The Nehemiah Alliance has issued a call to “We His people” from every nation: To join in 52 days of unified prayer, fasting, and repentance to rebuild our walls, restore our homes, revive our hearts, and heal our lands.

Two and a half centuries after our founding, America faces a crisis that no election, legislation, or economic policy can fix. The walls are broken down. Families are fractured. Churches have grown lukewarm. The moral foundations the Founding Fathers built this nation upon have been deliberately eroded by decades of cultural assault. Our republic will continue to slide down the path of socialist tyranny as secularism grows and God-fearing people remain on the sidelines. That foundation must be rebuilt before anything else can stand.

The Nehemiah Alliance draws its mandate from the promise recorded in 2 Chronicles 7:14:

“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”

Note who the verse addresses. Not Congress. Not the culture. Not the pagans.

God’s people.

The condition of the nation reflects the condition of the Church. No one can intercede for our communities and our culture other than God’s people. Renewal and rebuilding begins with us.

Recognized in the Halls of Power

Remarkably, this movement has not gone unnoticed in Washington. The Congressional Record of April 20, 2026, contains official recognition of The Nehemiah Alliance and its 52-day initiative, entered into the permanent record of the 119th Congress. When a call to national repentance is read into the record of the United States Congress, it echoes a long American tradition: our presidents and legislatures have proclaimed days of fasting, humiliation, and prayer from the darkest hours of the Revolution through the Civil War.

Lincoln himself declared that nations, like individuals, are subject to the judgments of God.

Corporate and personal repentance requires that we recognize that we have offended a Holy and Righteous God. We must seek His forgiveness as we endeavor, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to be faithful and obedient to His commandments.

As we humble ourselves during these 52 days, Scripture and our national condition point us to specific ground that must be covered in prayer:

• The sanctity of human life. We must seek God’s forgiveness for decades of innocent bloodshed in our land, ranging from the industrial-scale slaughter of preborn babies to the rising culture of death that promotes assisted suicide for the vulnerable, disabled and elderly. We must pray that the lies of the abortion and “death with dignity” industries be rejected and pray diligently that our friends and family members be convicted of the truth that every human life is fearfully and wonderfully made by God from the moment of conception until natural death.

• Our children. Those behind the radical transgender agenda target impressionable young people with life-altering lies that deny God’s design of male and female. Pray that its devastating harms would be revealed and that parents, grandparents, and church leaders would awaken and fight back. Pray that the truth about so-called “gender dysphoria” would be exposed as a manufactured crisis that ignores biological reality and created order.

• Parental rights. From government schools to libraries to doctors’ offices, bureaucrats are usurping parents by pushing destructive ideologies on children. Pray that parents and grandparents would rescue and disciple their children in the Christian faith, and that lawmakers at every level would reaffirm the God-given rights of parents.

• Our leaders and our elections. Scripture commands us to pray for those in authority (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Pray that Christians would engage in the political process and vote biblically. Pray that any attempts at fraud would be exposed and that God-fearing men and women would be raised up to serve at every level of government.

What the 52 Days Involve

The commitment is straightforward and within reach of every believer. Consider how you can:

• Pray in unity with other like-minded believers in your church, your Bible study, and around your family table. Let your children and grandchildren know the importance of prayer during these troubling times.

• Fast as the Lord leads, humbling seeking His mercy and grace on our families, our churches, our state and nation.

• Repent of personal and national sins, including apathy, disinterest, inaction, silence, misplaced priorities, fruitfulness and unfaithfulness.

• Pray that the Lord rebuild and restore a sincere hunger and thirst for Him and for eternal matters.

The Nehemiah Alliance provides resources to help individuals and churches mobilize their communities, including commitment cards and a United Prayer for the Nations. Participating churches across the country are joining together in a Sacred Assembly, a solemn gathering in the tradition of Joel 2, where the people of God set aside business as usual to seek His face.

The Power of the Prayer Track

Watchman Nee once said,

“Our prayers lay the track down which God’s power can come.” Through prayer, God has given His people the ability to shape the very future of the nation.

And Oswald Chambers reminds us:

“Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.”

There is a great deal of frustration among faithful Christians today, and rightly so. We watch institutions fail, truth mocked, and the nation our Founding Fathers built transformed before our eyes. But frustration without prayer and action is just noise. The Christian’s first weapon has never been the ballot box; it is the bended knee and contrite spirit.

If we hope to overcome evil with good, then prayer, action, and more prayer is essential.

Nehemiah’s builders faced mockery and death threats from Sanballat, Tobiah, and the Ammonites.. The builders answered with prayer and kept building – a sword in one hand and a trowel in the other. That is the posture this moment demands: prayerful, watchful, and engaged in the work.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, a small band of Christian colonists committed their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to the proposition that liberty flows from God, not government. In 2026, we owe them more than fireworks and parades. If we hope to preserve this great experiment in self-government, we must return to our roots. It requires repentance, resolve, and fidelity to the Author of Liberty.

The walls will not rebuild themselves. But as Nehemiah proved, when God’s people humble themselves and rise to the work, 52 days is enough to see them standing again. For us, and for the generations after us, it is only the beginning.
