Embryo Adoption: A Life-Affirming Option

Since the Alabama Supreme Court ruled on February 16 that frozen embryos should be recognized and protected as unborn children, Democrats have wrongfully alleged that Republicans want to “ban” in vitro fertilization (IVF). Even President Biden made this accusation during the State of the Union address last Thursday. However, this is not true. Republicans are not wanting to ban IVF.

California Redefining Fertility?

California is currently in the process of passing a bill that redefines what it means to be fertile. SB 729, approved by the California Senate late last month and now on its way to the Assembly, expands insurance coverage for in vitro fertilization to cover those who fall under their new definition of infertility. And who, you might ask, falls under this definition? Literally everyone.

A Red State Baby Boom

Going back to recent election cycles, some observers have noted that there is a distinct fertility gap between the Bush/Kerry, McCain/Obama election maps. “Red” states that tend to vote for Republicans have fertility rates that exceed replacement, whereas many Democratic blue states do not.
