Call-to-Prayer: 103rd Illinois General Assembly Begins
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   01.15.23
The famous quote often misattributed to Albert Einstein defines insanity as “Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Living as Christians in the rebellious state of Illinois often feels like we are surrounded by insanity.
State of Theology
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   12.12.22
Concerned Christians who are troubled by the revolutions that we are seeing in law and in our culture are right to investigate the source of why our nation is so rapidly changing. Evidence points to the failure of Christians maintaining a faithful witness to God’s truth and giving into the wicked pressures of our culture. Even more seriously, many professed Christians are extremely confused about the key doctrines of the Christian faith.

With the midterm elections over, big government Leftists and their political allies are now conspiring in Springfield. We are starting week 2 of the Fall Veto Session today, and one of the goals of many Democrats and teacher unions is to kill the Invest in Kids Act ...

By Calvin Lindstrom   |   11.08.22
On Thursday, November 10, the school board for D211 will be taking a vote whether to adopt the radical “Comprehensive Sex Education” standards connected with legislation signed into law in 2021, SB 818. Illinois has 860 school districts. As of August 2022, only 23 districts agreed to adopt the new standards while 540 school districts made the choice to opt out.
40 Days: Possibly A Matter of Life and Death
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   09.29.22
Christians must keep in mind that God is sovereign. The destiny of our nation is not ultimately in our power to control. That said, we live in a country that we the people govern, and so we have the privilege, right, and obligation to govern wisely.
What Was Sodom’s Sin?
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   08.10.22
Recently on social media and in the past, various people have claimed that Sodom was destroyed because the citizens of Sodom were not helping the poor... The city of Sodom is first mentioned in Scripture in Genesis 10:19. Three other cities were in the vicinity of Sodom: Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim. Often the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are mentioned together but Sodom stands out in the listing of these cities and is mentioned the most of the four cities in Scripture - 49 times.
A Biblical Perspective to Senseless Violence
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   07.28.22
On July 4, 2022, more than 80 rounds of ammunition were fired into the crowds watching the Highland Park July 4th Parade. Seven were killed and dozens were injured in this perverse attack. Predictably, many on the left were again calling for increased gun control. What is a Christian response to the violence that plagues our nation?

By Calvin Lindstrom   |   06.21.22
January 22, 1973 – This is a horrible date that we should all know -- the day the horrific decision, Roe v. Wade, was issued and announced. Almost 50 years later and over 63 million lives taken, this drastic decision could finally be overturned.
Psalm 94 and Prayer
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   05.09.22
The disciples of Jesus once came to Jesus and asked him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” It is in this context that Luke shares the prayer of Jesus that we often call the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus gave a beautiful summary for how we should pray. Moreover, the instruction that Jesus gave is a beautiful summary of what we find in the rest of Scripture.
Strengthening our Witness
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   03.29.22
Anyone not on life-support realizes we are in a dangerous place as a state despite the glowing ads about how Pritzker has solved all our problems. Violence is out of control in Chicago and other urban centers. Abortion enjoys the highest level of protection and promotion throughout our state. In November of 2021, it was reported that the total pension shortfall in Illinois passed $500 billion. That is a debt burden on average of $110,000 per Illinois household.
Prayer When All Hell Is Breaking Loose
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   03.10.22
Many of us were deeply troubled and/or surprised by the news that Russia started a more active invasion of Ukraine a couple of weeks ago. With this tragic news came the call to prayer. If you are honest, it seems...
Ota Benga and Abortion
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   01.11.22
Why was a man named Ota Benga put in a display with an orangutan at the Bronx Zoo in 1906? What does this perverse act, part of our nation’s history, have to do with abortion? While the treatment of Benga...
Praying for Illinois
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   01.01.22
As we reflect on 2021 and the various ways we were challenged, it is impossible not to be grateful for God's daily mercy and loving kindnesses that helped us get through the difficulties of life in this fallen world. At the same time, we have to wonder: Does praying for the state of Illinois accomplish anything? Why, even though there are many concerned Christians in prayer, is our state only progressing further down the path of rebellion and judgment? Does it matter?
The Account of Jesus’ Birth as Presented in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke
By Calvin Lindstrom   |   12.24.21
Like nearly every other aspect of Scripture, the birth of Jesus, the Messiah, has been questioned by theologians and supposed scholars. One famous scholar, Raymond Brown, states that Luke’s information is dubious on almost every score. This means that God was not able to communicate the basic historical facts regarding the birth of the Son of God. Is this how we want to start the story of Jesus – as if we are just trying to make things up, like a Joe Biden press conference? We certainly can have confidence in God’s Word even when we cannot line everything up with “secular” histories or the opinions of men.
