We have roll call on Stem Cell bill; no vote on ‘gay’/trans bill, SB 3186
The Senate adjourned today without voting on the pro-homosexual/transgender bill, SB 3186. Liberals lacked the necessary votes to pass the bill and so did not call it for a vote. Thus, the homosexual agenda will be defeated in Illinois for another session barring a last-minute vote in early January.
[Note: Early indications are that homosexual lobby groups will be pushing for one final vote for “gay” special rights in January, so our education efforts must continue.]
Also, the Senate turned back SB 3589, a bill that would have provided state funds for embryonic stem-cell research, by a vote of 28-29 with one member voting “present” and another not voting (see tally below). This bill, cynically titled the “Ronald Reagan Biomedical Research Act” despite the former president’s strong pro-life convictions, was termed the “Embryonic Clone & Kill Bill” by critics.
Another victory is that gambling was not expanded to Chicago, despite intense pressure from big-casino lobbyists and liberal Chicago politicians such as Mayor Daley, Senate President Emil Jones and U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., all Democrats.
Thanks to all of you who called or wrote your legislators on these critical issues. Also, pro-family Illinoisans owe a debt of gratitude to veteran pro-life lobbyists Rev. Bob Vanden Bosch and Ralph Rivera, whose tireless efforts paid off in Springfield once again. IFI’s own David Smith traveled to the Capitol yesterday to join them in helping to educate House and Senate members on the dangers of SB 3589 and SB 3186.
God has given our state a reprieve from evil and dangerous legislation for yet another season. With Thanksgiving just a week away, let us all give thanks to Almighty God for His mercy, grace and goodness to the people of this state.
