SUMMARY:Marijuana: Is It Safe for Youth?
DESCRIPTION:The growing debate on the legalization of marijuana has contributed to the belief that marijuana is harmless. However\, current research documents the risks of marijuana use by youth are grave. As youth\, parents\, educators\, and community members\, it is important to understand the implications of marijuana use during childhood and adolescence on brain development. \nDr. Madras will answer questions & concerns parents including:\n1) Is Marijuana addicting?\n2) How does it impact the teen brain & your student’s academic performance?\n3) Has its legalization across the country impacted it’s accessibility & use?\n4) Is it a gateway to other potentially deadly drugs?\n6) How does it impact your teen behind the wheel?\n7) Can teen use increase their odds of addiction & other mental illnesses later in life?\n…. and more!! \nAUDIENCE: Open to everyone but especially valuable for parents and their teens/adolescents students. \nLOCATION AND PARKING: Stevenson High School – WEST AUDITORIUM \nUsing Route 22 entrance\, park in LOT B and use “The Point” entrance on the West side of the parking lot. Using Port Clinton entrance\, park in LOT E and use the Sports Center entrance. The West Auditorium is on the 2nd floor above the West Commons/Forum.\n\n* Tickets are not needed for entry. Seating is on a first-come\, first-seated basis. She served as Deputy Director for Demand Reduction in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP)\, a position unanimously confirmed by the US Senate. At ONDCP\, her public health approach to Demand Reduction featured medicalization of Screening\, Brief Intervention\, Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) services. She has served as advisor to the National Football League (NFL)\, World Health Organization\,and was sole expert witness for United States Dept. of Justice in California.
